What is your memory footprint at startup?

Hi all,

I just bought another 4GB and now have 8GB total.

Had to loosen the timing from 4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v, anything tighter I can't boot into Windows.

I am running Win 7 Beta, and right after startup I am at 1389MB used. I find this odd because I thought Windows would use up more memory if there are more to use, but it didn't change much from 4GB to 8GB.

So, my question is, what is your initial memory footprint at startup?

I thought Windows would use up more memory if there are more to use, but it didn't change much from 4GB to 8GB.

Windows will be using all the available RAM it can, but this doesnt show on the graph/numbers of what is 'in use'

When in task manager there is a box that says 'Physical memory'
-the first number is the total addressable RAM installed
-the second is the amount windows has cached ONTOP of that in use (on the graph)
-the third number is the memory not being used at all.

I think this is done primarily to stop even worse 'Vista is a ram hog' rants as a pc saying it is using all the RAM all the time would worry a lot of people.

It is cached to allow fast access to files that are also on the hard disk, but other programs have higher priority over the ram, so if they needed, windows just reverts to looking on the hard disk if it needs these files and gives up the space to the app that needs it.

about 1gb of mem vista uses of my 8gb, but when I resume from hybrid sleep it uses about 800mb

No sorry, this when it comes out of hybrid sleep and 16% memory use on reboot

windows 7 has improved superfecth so im guessing it loads less on startup so obviosuly start up is quicker

then once everything is stable it probably loads in cache slower than vista did so overall performance is better

what im guessing anyway

After 5 days of Windows' prefetch (superfetch?) working now my memory sits at 3708mb used at startup.
