What is your "tea failure rate"?

Also, how could that be legal? Imagine the conversation:
tea contains toxins and tanins though and the longer you soak it the stronger it becomes.

is it really that hard to imagine it could be true? I did ask if it was fake news.

IDK what type of tea it was it might have been been green tea, I think she was making ice tea and had left the bags soaking for hours.

it could just be an old wives tale from her country.

most people probably don't know if you try to make garlic infused olive oil and just dump garlic in olive oil then your probably going to die.
I'm sure theres a bunch of things for human consumption that can go deadly fast whether it's from their own strength or something else like bacteria.

she used to think most potato skin varieties had poisonous skin too though.. there's probably 0 potatoes sold in supermarkets with skins that aren't edible, I know if they go green it's something we can't tolerate building up in the skin but thats different

I only drink Coffee and Earl Grey (no milk in the Earl Grey)

So for the tea I fill the cup up 5/8 with boiling water and then add some cold water from the tap. The tea is instantly drinkable and so never forgotten about.

I would say maybe one in 70 cups gets forgotten half way through due to distraction like a visitor.

The only time I would usually tip a brew away is if I find it half drunk whilst in the process of boiling the kettle for a new drink.

My wife's sister claims to be able to tell if the teabag has been pressed against the side of the cup with spoon before being removed, and tries to reject the brew if done so. The amount of times I have proved that one wrong because its clearly ******** definitely has a 0% failure rate.

Pretty much 0%, I only have 1 cuppa a day at breakfast and I have it black, which removes milk failures.

If the bag is left in in too long it’ll go bitter, but it’s still manageable.

How does number 1 even occur?

Leave it to brew? What? Do you people not know how to make tea?

Milk in first or not, whatever, but when you put the hot water in you need to first stir once the teabag just to get the water in, then vigorously mash it against the side of the cup with the back of a teaspoon.

I like a strong cup of tea, but if you leave it to stew, you just at get all that **** that's comes out and makes your tea taste horrible.
Pouring scorn on people when you abuse tea.

I don't drink many hot drinks but when I do they must be consumed immediately I can not stand lukewarm drinks so my rate would be 0%.

My beautiful wife sadly not the same never finishes a drink cold or hot.

When I make a brew in a mug using one tea bag sometimes when I add the milk it’s as if the tea bag had not mashed at all even though i’ve given it the usual amount of time to brew. As if the teabag itself was defective.

My post work tea failure rate is very high due to nodding off with said brew resting on my belly and it either goes cold or I pour it over myself after a snooze twitch

0% because tea is crap and I don't drink it. Just have a (good) coffee, which is an actually nice drink. Simples.

1%, that 1 time i squished my spoon against the tea bag too hard and ripped the bag! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I learned long ago to drink coffee and tea stone cold, as I'd often be busy at the time but not get a chance to make another.
I myself have 0% failure rate, but I often get my tea taken away by other people who insist on making a fresh one because mine has gone cold.

Used to 0% but these days often get interrupted mid tea making which ruins the tea. It's about 10%. I'll probably skip tea if It think I'm likely to be interrupted making or drinking it.

tea contains toxins and tanins though and the longer you soak it the stronger it becomes.

is it really that hard to imagine it could be true? [..]

Yes it is, because food safety standards exist.

As I said before:

[..] I suppose you could argue that pretty much everything is toxic to humans if the dose is high enough, so on that basis all tea (and pretty much everything else) is toxic to humans. Even pure water is toxic to humans if consumed in large enough quantities.

But that's not usually considered enough of a reason to call something toxic. That implies that it's significantly toxic in relatively small quantities.

[..] she used to think most potato skin varieties had poisonous skin too though.. there's probably 0 potatoes sold in supermarkets with skins that aren't edible, I know if they go green it's something we can't tolerate building up in the skin but thats different

Potatoes took a while to become a staple food in Europe in part because it was widely believed that they were poisonous. The whole potato, not just the skin.

I keep forgetting cups of tea I'm making, so much so I think the failure rate might be so high that it's not even worth buying tea anymore.

There are all sorts of reasons for failure. My main ones, with their failure rate are:

1. Leave it to brew, walk off, forgot it. ~25%
2. Made it out of habit and didn't even want it. ~10%
3. Set it down to cool, forgot it. ~5%
4. Biscuit collapse. ~1%

So my total tea failure rate is about 41%.

What's yours?

My main failure is putting the kettle on then forgetting about it and not making the brew in the first place

I remembered this thread as I failed to make a cuppa this morning.

My number #1 tea failure cause is (drumroll).

5. Boiling the kettle, walking off, forgetting to even make the tea.

On average I think it takes me 3-4 boils to successfully follow through and make the damn tea. Still, at least I always drink it when I finally make it :p

1. Drink it anyway hmmm strong Tea zero wasted
2, If I did not want it I do not make it 0%
3. Cold Tea, I do not have milk so hmmm drink that down zero wasted
4. Fish it out and drink that Tea!, waste a bit at the bottom

Total Tea failure very little.
