hi,
what ISP is best for over 30-40 gb usage a month?

prefer one that lets me connect to smtp servers (so i can send from @mydomain) but this isn't that important.

thanks

Without knowing what is available in your area it's impossible to give a recommendation.

Check samknows and tell us what services are available to you.

I would say Zen 8000 Pro

50GB for £34.25 a mth

I have this on my work line and it is brilliant service, expensive but if you want a really dependable provider and have no option of LLU there are few better than Zen.

I suppose you could also give Enta a go, but having heard all the recent stories about their new ATL tool and what constitutes a 'high' bandwidth user I'm glad I dumped them for Zen.

Any LLU operators or just BT Wholesale?

hi,
i assumed all adsl/phone line connections were the same. looks like i can get...
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Orbital / VFast Wireless

UK Online (part of Sky/Easynet), imho. £25.99 for all you can download, UK only tech support, solid backhaul. Win.
EDIT: Oh, and they don't suffer from flaky DNS or congestion as Be/O2 can ;)

I'm on Eclipse's Home Pro - £26 pm 50gb useage between 9am - 11pm and unlimited outside. Thier new packages seem to give me consistent 7mb throughput, no traffic shaping like the old packages either.

That deal looks good, pity they dont have a package between the Home Select and Home Pro ones. 50GB is a fair bit more than i need and 10GB is nowhere near enough. Plus it means spending an extra fiver a month. Am tempted though.

EDIT

12 month contract too :(.

Plusnet do an "unlimited" connection on a deal for 11.99 at the mo. Goes up to 15.99 or 19.99 depending on your area 3 months. Anyone used them before?

EDIT

18 month contract :( :(

Be online require you to send your mail through their smtp server smtp1.betherenow.co.uk

I send my custom domain emails using it but if theres anything that checks domain and smtp server for a mismatch it might get flagged.

Mandatory purchase on a router for £50????? I don't need or want one! They'd be the one i'd most likely use if not for that.

Yeah that is a shame. They lifted the requirement for a few months but put it back again. I'm presuming they got a lot of calls along the lines of "OMGWTF my ObscureRouter2736xte isn't connecting". :(

Weighing up the service you get though, and the fact you can auction off your mandatory purchase for a decent enough price, it's worth it. They're miles cheaper than, say, Zen and still manage to give you up to 24Mbps and equally excellent service.

When you look at it like that it's suddenly not bad at all. I can't fault them one bit and I'm well into my second year with them now. 22Mbps sync, 2.3MB/sec rock solid, 500GB average bandwidth a month.

Agree, I've never seen my connection drop and I get full whack whenever I download, night or day.

I used to trial their 8mbit and ADSL2+ years ago, great company.
