Hi guys,

I hope you enjoyed this weekend's show. I'm writing this blog entry in the production office at 1am on Monday in Singapore (about three hours after the grand prix finished).

We stay on European time for the Singapore GP which means out of bed at 1pm, and into bed at 4am, which is strange but seems to work for the media and the teams.

Anyway, to this week's blog.

I remember as a TV-obsessed kid wondering what happened when the presenters weren't on screen, so I decided to show you!

I know lots of you are keen to get as close to F1 and the BBC's coverage as possible, which is why I love doing the blogs and the tweets. But this weekend I've decided to up the ante.

I asked the director Richard if it was possible to record the talkback and the three camera feeds along with our actual output.

The result is embedded below. It is about as close as you'll get to being an F1 presenter without actually doing it.

You can hear exactly what I hear as the show gets going. You'll also spot the transmission on the bottom right as well as the three cameras we use.

Now, the start of the show is notoriously much easier than the end.

For the race build-up, we know pretty much what we're going to do and who we'll speak to. By contrast, after the programme we generally have 30-50 minutes to fill without any script or running order.

I'd love to know what you make of the video. You can hear last minute changes of shot, the plan unfolding inside the McLaren garage and how we make late, swift decisions to try to make the show as dynamic, exciting and entertaining as possible.

I should point out, by the way, that as the video was filmed within the confines of the Singapore track, it is only available to UK users.

Anyway, enough words, watch the video and let me know what you think!

Jake

Great video in there! So busy!!

I liked that a lot! I'm surprised how calm and collected they all are in between the pre-recorded bits. I think I'd be running around like a loon.

I was really impressed with that video. Lovely insight. I like Jake, Eddy and DC.

My only qualms with the BBC coverage is my complete lack of respect for Legard. The rest is perfect!

Bring on HD asap!!

That was very interesting, thanks for posting Dangerous. I now have a lot more respect for those presenters, looks like it can get a bit hectic!

I wonder if they did the same for the commentary box, it would show Brundle trying to hang himself in the background during the race.

How good have the BBC been with the F1 coverage since they've had it? I've heard nothing but good things. I moved to Australia 3 weeks before their first Grand Prix so I never got to see the pre/post shows. Still, at least ONE over here are sensible enough to feed the BBC commentary through, although they interrupt the coverage at least 5 times every race which gets me so angry!

The coverage is excellent. ITV improved it before and the BBC have improved it once again. Full coverage of the practice sessions with commentary, then great qually and race shows with extended bit afterwards via red button. The updated FOM graphics have helped as well.

Just need HD (which Bernie hinted is coming next year) and to get rid of Legard.

Seems it's an old thread, just came across it while searching for something. Blimey, how tricky must that be for jake to concentrate on his talk while being bombarded with the producers voice commands. Amazingly well done!

While I'm here, is eddie jordan still part of the coulthard/humphreys trio, and who is taking over from legard?

Errr, DC is joining Brundle in the comms box :) I would also assume therefore Eddie will be sticking around, there has been no mention of anything else changing, 'if it ain't broke etc.'

So DC has effectively replaced legard then? So on the grid, it'll be jake, eddy, and, well, someone else presumably, unless DC is covering both grid and commentary? It won't be as good if it's only two people on the grid talking about stuff, in fact, I'll miss DC on the grid, because it's his and jake's facial expressions every time EJ opens his mouth which is hilarious.
