Hi there,

I've managed to get two job offers, my degree is in International Business and I have experience and initially wanted to move forward in marketing. But after being unemployed for a while I want job stability too.

First job -

Call operator

This job has good money (more than the other role), is NOT a sales role, with a huge company that are expanding, a 5 min walk from my house and the office looks like a laugh.

However career progression seems well, dire.

Second Job

Marketing Exec

Normally I would take the job straight away, but this job has a element of sales in it. It would look epic on my CV providing I can stay there for 1 year or more and the opportunities that would arise would be amazing.

It is a hour and a half commute and the money is less. I worry about the sales aspect, its a shared target not a personal one however. Also the office seems a bit crap but they say they are moving in a couple of months. She also said the job has a lot of pressure and its a lot of work.

I dont know what to take, I called the Marketing Job and I've been told they can offer be stability and support in the sales aspect but I feel they are desperate to get someone in.

Thanks for any opinions.

The marketing exec seems like a much more progression job to go for? hour and a half commute though :/ how would you commute? will it be OTT in costs? time? plus you have to watch out for things like commission based if its sales.

Sounds as though you're already too worried about job 2 and it will probably get worse. So job one and if opportunities don't come with expansion look again.

What duties does job 2 involve aside from sales? "Marketing Executive" sounds like a fancy job title for a telesales role.

I'd be inclined to take job 1, within a large company that's expanding, there has to be further opportunities to develop, even if not directly from the role you're in, plus more money, 5 min commute and from the sounds of it a nicer environment!

Take job #1. There's nothing stopping you moving on when a job that your genuinely want opens up. One that isn't a pain to get to, that is.

Ide go for job #1, it's stable, convenient, pays better, better work environment, & the companies expanding.

Think of both as short term jobs. The first job will possibly be more fun for a couple of weeks until it gets boring. The second job seems like it will give you a lot of experience for the future. I'd go with the marketing job with a plan to learn as much as I could in one to two years and consider moving on after that.

What kind of "executive" position is paid less than a call operator?

Marketing/Sales job titles are a joke, "Exec" and "Manager" are thrown left right and centre.

Get into Job #1, get your foot in the door, get the money, experience and dip your fingers in as wide an area where possible - this will let you learn and pick up more of what area you want to focus on whilst looking for a new job / role.

Good luck!

Call operator, or sales exec.

Which one would you consider if you were sorting the CVs.

I say marketing exec. As it'll open more doors.

depends on what career path you wish to follow.

Not saying a call operator is not a good job but boy I personally could not do anything like that. Infact sitting in a office drives me insaine.

The commute for the other role which will look better on your C.V is also killer.

Take Job 1 and look for something that suits you more?
