Is this mini usb or?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. I don't actually know what this little thing is and I'm trying to figure it out...

Could you put a pencil next to it to get an idea of the size?

It does look like a displayport/hdmi style of thing but it isnt. What device is that?

On the first pic it looks like there is a button but it's not, its just engraved. The white bit is double sided tape, one side of which hasnt been pealed.

Pic 2 you can see two holes a lot like where the mic / speaker might be on a phone? you can see two mic/speaker looking things on the inside picture too..

Suspicious!

Any ideas?

edit: I suppose I should really have posted this in GD now :)

Sim data stealer? Contact transferrer? Get us a pic of the sticker. The port makes me think that that is how the battery is charged.

e; Got it, it's a spy little gadget, it listens and records the data to the sim card. Where did you find it?

Label kinda gives it away. It's an M200 GPS Tracker. That socket, although it doesn't look like it, is a custom mini-usb that'll accept a custom programming lead with extra pins.

I'm probably wrong tho

I think it a voice bug/alarm unit. It's obviously got a battery, so I think the socket is a mini-USB for charging, possibly for accessing the sim to add number.

Look up "micro spy gsm" on the Bay, and you'll see loads of things that look exactly like that.

So this is literally some kind of secret listening device...

Could it have any other uses?

This is how I understand it works. It sits idly until it hears a noise... and when it does, it calls the users mobile and the user can then listen to what ever the mic can hear?

Tell me I'm wrong and paranoid.

It's a GPS tracker. Reports its location back using the SIM card.

Hence the double sided tape for sticking it somewhere it won't be found easily.

So, where did you find it? :D

Or someone can call it and activate it. Does it have a button on it? I'd guess that you can press that button and it calls a number that can then hear what it going on. It could be some kind of emergency caller/pager type of thing, but they seem to be sold as spying devices.

I'd stick that SIM in a reader and see what's on it.

Edit: I've seen you said that's not a real button, so I guess it's either active all the time or you dial into it. Can you find any holes for mics? If not, then it's probably a GPS tracker as suggested above.

Yup. And as Steampunk says, you can also ring it and it'll activiate too.

You're not wrong or paranoid. Again, where did you find it? Because if I found something like that in my home, or place of work, I'd be ****ed.
