What kind of rig could I expect to build with £1000 incl a 24" screen.

Basically I'd like to build a high spec rig mainly for gaming. I'd also like to include a 24" screen as it will be used for stuff like television as well.

I don't need speakers, or keyboard/mouse, just the tower and screen.

Some min specs: 500 gig HDD, as quiet as possible. CD/DVD all in one drive and a sound card.

Cheers.

Will you be overclocking?

Also since a 24inch screen has a res of 1920x1200 you will find it very hard to play the latest games at that res since your budget wont allow for a good enough GPU to handle it. :)

Ok, what about playing at 1280x1024 though? :p

And no, no overclocking, but that's not a definite no....

Spec if you wanted to overclock but sacrifice some gaming performance.

Is the 24" an absolute must? 22" screens are very cheap in comparison these days, and would allow you do get a much beefier machine. If you do want a 24" the only ones I know of are the Dell and the much cheaper acer 2416wd which has far fewer connections IIRC.

Well if you take the screen separately then he is only really spending around £575, in which case squeezing an 8800gts into the budget would actually be rather impressive.

8800gtx £320
24" dell £400
e6320 £100
Ballistix 2GB £55
Gigabyte DS3p £65
500gig HD £60
case £15
PSU £15

a tad over £1000

Overclock the CPU to 3GHZ, the ram to 860MHZ

simple

edit: if you go for second hand or refurb, a 30" dell can be had for £500

putting a 8800gtx in a system with a £15 power supply is an impending time bomb ticking away £1000 worth of it.

dont kid yourself, i wouldnt put a celeron in with a £15 psu.

The old model 30" Dell monitors (3007WFP) quality sucks in comparison to the newer ones (3007WFP-HC). Unless you're willing to fork out near £1000 for a new one I still wouldn't buy anything more than a 24".

The 24" screen really eats into that budget and for a high spec rig for gaming on top its unlikely going to stay under £1000. I suggest either you adjust your budget/expectations/screen size in order to give us a better idea of what you want.

How come even these days people massively underestimate PSUs? Just wanting to waste money with some generic mess

If your talking about my spec. I believe the PSU that comes with that case is made be Seasonic. :) :) :D
