The router is plugged into the main socket and no extensions are used. The micro-filters have been changed with no effect.

The last disconnetion happened when internet went down for the whole area for a day due to exchange issues.

That quote was interesting. Im not sure if you on sky connect, but your downstream is 2mbps so you may still be able to get up to 8mb but im not sure if you package would allow you to do that.

We are not on connect that is for sure.

From that page we opted for the following:

"Sky Max. Sky Max utilises Sky exchange equipment, LLU and ADSL2+ capped to a maximum connection speed of 16Mb, or, where line conditions are not suitable for ADSL2+, they use G.DMT, sometimes also capping this to 8Mb."

On the bill it says Sky Unlimited now:

Its the same speed we have been getting for yonks now. It does not vary - check the link in my first page.

Looking at the stats,I suspect we should be getting over 7MB??

I ring Sky up and they always seem to find a way to up the speed...for a week or so.

They it goes down to useless again - it seems the router gets a communication from Sky(from what I gather looking at the logs) and it then drops down again.

I have gotten sick and tired of their deception and I really need to push the others I think into ditching them. The worse thig it is part of a much larger package including TV too.

I recently left Talk Talk after it would drop out countless times a day, i always find there is two ways to deal with broadband providers.

Either try to boost your package and get fibre optic or something for a discount price for being a long term sky customer. (I imagine you wont want to pay more than you already are so mention that).

Also, They would charge you a leaving cost depending on how long is left on your contract, You can either choose to buy them out and change providers or just complain and complain and put loads of issues on you record to show that you are clearly having problems. With my Talk Talk, our leaving costs were £200+ since we still had a good year or so left with them, but we just phoned up over and over again, supervisor to supervisor until they let us go for free.

Moral of the story, If you want them to do something for you, keep talking to supervisors (they seem to do, and care more than regular staff) and just make sure they record that you are deeply unhappy with the service, if they try to blame things on you don't take it since they should be providing an adequate service. If they want to keep you then they should either fully fix it, or boost your package.

Thanks. We have been with Sky for quite a while,so we can leave more or less with short notice(the initial contract is long gone).

What firmware is your router on, mine recently updated to 2.8sky.

Speedtests etc are going to do you no good, you need to badger sky as it looks like they are setting your line profile completely wrong.

How do I get newer firmware??

This is the thing if I badger them the speeds go up but only for a week or so. Last year I did and it shot up to nearly 7MB.

Then just over a week later it dropped. This always happen after I badgered them. Their deception is take the mikey.

I checked the router logs and the drop always happen after an incoming connection from Sky.

The router is the rebranded Netgear DG934.

Thanks. We are using the test socket.

We had a solid 7MB for around 10 days(checked the router stats) a few months ago. It is only after I complained said that the exchange should support at least 7MB.
All of a sudden it got reduced down one Sunday night(always happens at around this day if we have had a temporary speed boost).A previous time I tried a little experiment. I lied and said the exchange should support at least 4MB and we got 4MB for all of a week.

Perhaps I should say 14MB next time...maybe we will get that. Perhaps if I buy Max Payne 3 the week it is released it would be a good idea.

All,the time we get the speed increased,the so-called technical person keeps saying the line speed is low and settings are not right,etc and increases it,but usually only to a speed I have hinted to before.

I bet since we are in a relatively densely populated area,Sky are just trying a fast one to save on bandwidth.

Need to push the others onto Virgin fibre methinks. People living close to us have it and even with the management it is better than what we have.
