hi guys.

i need to find a good laptop to use for film editing and general computing, browsing etc etc. There's no budget but i'd like best performance for the best price.

i'm thinking of maybe a bottom end dell xps with the intel duo core core cpu necuase they are the only high end laptops i can think off but i'm not sure if want to spend that much.

anyone got any suggestions??

Dell do do high end laptops, but they aint the only ones.

When I was choosing a laptop, i went notebookreview.com forums, they helped me out there, really helpful. They know what they are on about and if you just fill in a list questions they can recommend you the perfect latop. Its like they know every laptop made ever.

Also there is reviews on nearly every in the world, thats your best bet m8.

How about an Alienware

Good spec and just over a grand.

Naughty Naughty Very Naughty! :p
imo computers from that company are overpriced, poor customer service as well. Hyped up a lot and they're just ODM's like any other. hmm if that's a single core Turion not great value for money at all. yup single core £1400 2ghz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS . Too expensive. £1650 for 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS SLI.

Budget? Why do people always consider Dell? :(

Perhaps because they have one of the largest ranges to fit most needs and budgets?

So its better to completely discount Dell who are one of the main players in the laptop market, simply because people love to hate them a la MS? Aye that would be a good reason to go elsewhere...sure we have been here before on a previous related topic?

The Dell XPS range are very good machines but there are certainly comparitive price/performance models out there.
Some of the Sony Vaio range are pretty much spec for spec with the Dell XPS as they would be as they use near enough the same components.

Alienware customer service is renown for being crap, really crap!!!

As for Dell, personally I wouldn't buy a dell, i hear of poor build quality.

You should try Zepto (although they are having delays recently) or Rock.

I have heard nothing but good things from Rock, and they have a forum which everybody is really helpful on.

Obviously its up to you, but I would firstly ask the "professionals" at notebookreivew.com

with regards to budget there isnt one really but the lower the better, as its for a mate im not to sure, it just needs to good for film editing so must have large storage and a decent cpu.

i only mentyioned dell becuase the xps range dont seem to bad for the price and alienware is outta the ball park on price

I'm in a similar position.

Just spec'd:

Zepto Znote 6615WD - Gamer - Extreme £878.00
100265 15.4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 (6615WD)
120622 2.00 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo T7200 4MB
130121 2048MB (2x1024) DDR2 PC5300 - 667MHZ
140019 80GB 7200omdr. SATA Hitachi
150121 DVD-RW Dual Layer burner Slot-in (Sony)
260025 Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG 54Mbit
200200 No operating system
270010 Built-in bluetooth
170050 UK (United Kingdom) 6x15WD
250324 6 Cell Standard Battery
300200 12 months warr. (6 mths on battery); return to base, parts & labour
230030 Zepto Basic Pro Nylon £8.00

Subtotal £886.00
VAT £155.05
Total £1,041.05

Seems a good spec (Hammers the equivelent dell for price for same gear) for a very reasonable price.

I would avoid Dell as they are overpriced and the support you get with them is shocking.

Not even a drive CD. Colleague at work had to rebuild his and I spent the best part of the afternoon downloading various drivers and utilties that were need.

That Zepto spec looks pretty good though.

Depends, personally style isnt important to me and it doesnt make the laptop any faster.

I always recommend HP, i have a great deal of machines from the NX range of business notebooks and from extensive experience they do the job extreamly well.

Build quality, parts avaliability, service and support is all excellent, plus they have a good feature set.
