Okay uni loams up :/ and indeed having surveyed my quarters it appears that my room is not really sufficient for having a pc. This combined with lectures and what not means that a laptop is a logical choice.

However I would want to be lan gaming, not to mention my course is a computer one so some power might be needed.

My budget is £700 (not a lot I know :( ).

Can anyone think of anything that might fit the bill?

I got a beautiful dell one at one point that had superb ram, cpu hard drive etc, but the graphics card let it down :(

Acer AS8930G-644G32Mn

Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6400
Processor speed (2GHz, 800MHz, 2MB cache)
Memory Size 4GB MB
Memory Type DDR2
Hard Drive Capacity 320 GB
Optical Drives 8x DVD-RW
Screen Size/Type 18.4" Full HD 1080p LCD
Graphics Card Type nVidia GeForce 9600M GT
Graphics Memory 512MB dedicated MB

£679.99

Nice big screen but if you want a smaller the 6930g are very good spec for money.

Sounds like a nice laptop indeed, I am interested.

Just wondering if I would be able to "borrow" my mums blu-ray rewriter from her Dell machine and stick in the above?

How my mother managed to pick up a dell laptop with a p8600, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd with a blu-ray rewriter for £400 I do not know :/

Glad she uses all the power with mozilla lol.

She said I could have it if I needed it and she would buy another, but the graphics card is a crappy 3640

So long as its the same type ie if they are both sata optical drives it will fit no problem you just swap the bezels around they just pull off and clip back on, then you need some blue ray software.

Offer you mum £400 for her laptop - you never know, she might be in a benevolent mood! :D

My mum would give it to me if I asked, but unfortunatly she chose a pink custom option (i cant afford to lose anymore man points :D), and its got a crappy 3650 GPU.

I would be hoping for something that could play CS-S at max quality @ 1920x1080 (I want to be able to output to a 50" plasma)
