What mac do I need...

Couldn't he use a hdmi adapter with a MBA when he needs a bigger screen? I have the 15inch MBP and was thinking getting one so I can us it on my 1080p HDTV. I bought a MBP has I wanted to do video editing but wanted portability too.

Especially since I think I saw that Photoshop on the Ipad has been released. They are great machines if I didn't record music on a regular basis I would definitely sell my MBP for one.

I'd get the air if you purely want a portable device, without a doubt.

Any MacBook will do what you desire though. (and do it well)

If you want a fully featured laptop while keeping it portable you will want a 13" model for sure, 15" really isn't that nice to use on a plane or as a portable device. I was glad to move away from my old 15" lappy.

13" is a good sweet spot between netbook and laptop.

I'm glad I didn't get the MBA. Not because I think they're poo but due to the fact I fell in love with iMovie straight away. If I had got the MBA I'm sure I'd have then wished I had more horse power when creating videos.

I know that's not why the thread creator is buying a MBA but I bet there will be programs that come with Mac OS he'll instantly love which need muscle. :D

13" macbook air, without a doubt. If you only need it for light photo editing, its got PLENTY of horsepower for that!
It is also an amazing piece of kit, my sister has the 11 inch version, which I think is slightly too small, I've even seen a graphic designer who has opted for the highest spec 13 inch version, instead of a 15inch MBP!

The thread title should probably read "What mac do I want...", as there's no need to get a mac for any of the activities you've stated - it's all personal preference of course, but I think they're probably a bit too expensive/powerful for what you want. My £350 Asus UL30-A could cope with all that with ease, and has a ridiculously long battery life to boot.

If you are thinking about getting a 13" air then you may as well have a look at the Samsung Series 9, better in almost every way than the Air (more powerful and a much better screen aparently), with similar battery life and almost identical size/weight. It is a windows laptop so it depends on how much of an obsession with OSX you have.

New MBA potentially in June/July. I've been looking at replacing my laptop and once they refresh the MBA I'm going to be very very tempted.

Computerworld - Apple will refresh its popular MacBook Air line of ultra-thin notebooks in June or July, a Taiwanese publication said today, citing unnamed Asian supplier sources.

According to DigiTimes, the MacBook Airs will feature processors from Intel's Sandy Bridge architecture, and boast Thunderbolt connectivity, two moves Apple made in February when it launched new MacBook Pro models.

The current MacBook Air line relies on Intel's Core 2 Duo processors, making it one of the last two Apple systems to use that aged CPU: So far this year, Apple has transitioned both the MacBook Pro and iMac to the dual- and quad-core Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors with the Sandy Bridge architecture.
