What make for 5070 Ti - does it matter?

Hi folks,

Planning a new build in the near future. Going to start by securing a 5070 Ti as my GPU. Availability is obviously spotty, and price is variable. How much does the manufacturer matter? (In particular, are there any manufacturers to avoid)?

If retailers don't take responsibility for warranty(which is a different discussion), consider Palit/Pny/Galax/Ino3D/Gainward afaik are all Asia based for rma returns, could be a long turnaround and (return?)postage cost to Asia.

Zotac 5 yr warranty if you register with Zotac within 30 days of purchase-and if things haven't changed a UK based RMA centre for a quick turnaround.

Gigabyte, UK based RMA centre, but off of past experience, you pay return postage for the repair, I went through the retailer it was bought from and they paid the return postage.

Don't have any info for MSI/Asus RMA centres although something's telling me MSI was Europe based.

There's also this thread but no idea how valid any info is:

Just so you are aware, the 9070XT is by far the more popular choice this gen with probably more stable drivers at this point in time with saving money.

Thank you - appreciated. I thought about an RX 9070 XT, but they seem a lot harder to get hold of, whereas OC currently has a Zotac version (reasonable RMA by the look of it) of the 5070 Ti for a similar price. Plus I’m very used to Nvidia (crap reason I know).

One more question whilst I’m here. I’ve been playing at 1440p for about 7-8 years, on a 1070 and a 2070. I was intending to go up to 4K, but I keep reading that 70-series Nvidia cards are most suited to 1440p? Is this really true, or only if you want to crank every single setting to the absolute max?

5070 Ti can do 4K, but it is still a premium resolution and AAA games are always going to hammer a card at native 4K, with the problem just getting worse over time. They also love giving cards just enough VRAM, like the 4070, 4070 Ti and 5070 all have 12GB, which won't be sufficient for 4k in the longer-term, similar to how the 3070 still has plenty of grunt, but is now struggling with 8GB in some games.

Thanks again. I suspect that I’ll be happy enough. I do play the odd AAA title, but I’m currently running Cyberpunk at 1440p on my old 2070, and although I can’t recall exactly what settings I have it at, it looks plenty pretty enough.

my guess is with trump's tariffs, graphics cards supplies will be diverted outside us, overabundance expected in couple of months
i think i am going to regret my decision to buy into this generation

Demand is still high, so even if that happens, I'd be surprised if we get abundant uber deals any time soon. Happy to eat my words in a month or two.

Yeah, if you're happy to be modest with the settings I think you'll be good and the 5070 Ti is the first 70 card (apart from the 4070 Ti Super) that comes with 16GB, so that'll help with 4K.

theres also a possibility that they stop all supply (or reduce the output to negligible levels) to realign the supply chain for US, only if i had proper insider info could i have said that with more conviction but in the meanwhile the stuff thats already produced they wont know what to do with that.. going to be a few good months i'd reckon

Demand for consumer cards isn't high, in fact the 50 series is probably the lowest selling generation ever for Nvidia despite plenty of cards now being in stock. Even reviews based at MSRP prices saw the cards branded as disappointing.

the demand is high but the prices are higher

The xx70 is usually one of the top sellers for Nvidia so the fact they are struggling to shift 5070s shows demand isn’t high, plenty of 5070ti’s and 5080s in stock also with only the MSRP models selling out at any rate.

Because people are sheep and/or easily give in to fomo
MSRP vs MSRP the 9070 and 9070XT are definitely the best way to go. But when the 5000 series are MSRP and the 9070/9070XT are being heavily scalped by the retailers, the 5000 series is the better choice

I think all the driver issues have people worried as well , but to be fair the 9070xt is about 25-30% faster than a 5070 so worth an extra £100 with a decent cooling solution , what will be interesting is the 5060 / 9060 scrap normally the 60 series is the best selling cards
