I needed a small side table and it seem they are quite hard to find.
Instead I made one out of MDF and an old desk top I found in the bin earlier.

I was using our lounge side table before but that mean nowhere to rest drinks. It wont win prizes but it works and took me no longer than an hour to saw up the MDF and screw some wood screws into it

Few jobs in the garden today

Moved the spoils from the pruning and deck removal last week from the garden

To the side of the house and got the incinerator and fire pit out

Thought I'd spend the day burning as much as I could as wasn't prepared to try and cut it up and take it to the tip and didn't really warrant a skip

So fired up the incinerator

I stripped the bigger pieces to store for the log burner next year and slung the rest in to burn.

A lot of the deck was far too wet so didn't use a great deal of that but the branches went up reasonably well, just a lot of them !

About 3/4 of the way through the incinerator was struggling due to lack of air from being quite full with ash / embers so fired up the fire pit too for a double burn :D

Stacked the pieces I'm keeping in the log store

Tidied up

And left the incinerator smouldering away - expecting it still to be quite hot in the morning - it's about 2/3 full

Thanks. The full cost of materials (including drainage), machinery and skip hire came to £79.64 per m2.

I've not laid a stone patio before but am a qualified brickie (many years ago with Wimpey) so I know my way around a spirit level. Having said that, I think anyone with a bit of common sense and patience, who isn't afraid of taking on something new could do this work to a good standard.

Yes I hired a whacker, it was about £60 for the weekend. It was advertised as £35 but with £5 delivery each way and vat it was £60. I put down half of the sub base material and compacted it, then put down the other half on top, and compacted again. I could have done it in a day but I work full time so only have weekends spare, the weather forecast was patchy and because I'm doing it alone I wanted more time if needed. It was only £15 more than 1 day hire anyway.

A couple of other things which I hope you find helpful:

Skips. They did a discount for just soil/stone rather than domestic waste, so do enquire when ordering a skip.

Stone slabs. I anticipated a few breakages, what with them being shipped all the way from India, so bought a 20m2 crate for my 17m2, however upon arrival not one single slab out of 64 was broken. They were cleverly stacked in the crate and a small offcut wedged in there held the stone like a solid block. Had I known this I would've bought a 18m2 pack, but I'll make a nice doorstep out of one of the leftover tombstones and find a use for the others.

Cement mixer. With it being a project for weekends only, I calculated it would be cheaper to buy a mixer rather than rent it to sit unused during the week. I bought this little beauty for £219 and she runs like a dream:

They sell used for between £150 and £200 used so I'll probably sell it once finished, though I am becoming attached to it lol. Without the cost of the mixer the project is £66.58 per m2.

am looking to do this myself soon. Can you link to the slabs please?

I feel your pain. I hate any kind of decorating lol :D

Just about done every room in the house now and the Mrs reckons the lounge (the first room we did when we moved in) will be due to be done again later in the year - FML :rolleyes:

It's the last room luckily. Living room/hallway was a bit of a slog the other week. Took a week off work and ended up doing much longer days, haha.
Nothing will be done for at least 10 years after this! Though secretly I like painting, but don't tell her!

Do you not get egg anxiety every time you take one off of that stand?

I presume the colour is changeable?

Haha, they roll down fine - haven't cracked one yet :)

Yeah, lights are colour changeable/dimmable/timer - via a credit card remote or via an Android app.

Made a start with the fencing, one side dug and post supports set in postcrete. Glad I bought the post hole digger as it makes digging quite easy.

I also put a coat of oil based preserver on one side of the panels that will be facing away. Went for barrentines clear and when we come to have the decking installed later in the year will likely use the same stuff so it all matches.
