Hi, first post and am a little lost in the jungle of possible mb's on the market so any help and advise would be greatly received. I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard CPU RAM within a budget of around 300. The main focus of the PC will be for video editing but also the occasional gaming. I'm not really too worried about spending time in OC'ing it, really just after a good value for money reliable setup, have had AMD in the past so am happy to stick with that. Any recomendations? Thanks in advance.

Hey shrekhead,

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback, I do like the idea of a 'plug and play' bundle but the only issue i have with your recomendations would be that the mb doesn't have many expansion slots. I would prefer a larger board in case I decide to add some cards to it at a later date.

Hey shrekhead :)

I would prefer a larger board in case I decide to add some cards to it at a later date.

Hmmm, both those boards above include two PCI slots and one PCI-E x1 slot . . . what expansion cards were you thinking of installing? . . . Its been ages since I installed an expansion card myself . . . everything seems to be onboard these days! :D

Anyway if you do want some extra expansion potential then as if by magic this offer just came up! ;)

Thanks for further feedback and pointing me in the right direction. I know what you mean about mb's having most things I would need but part of it is the unknown, as I don't upgrade that ofthen (last time was approx 4-5 years ago) I want to be well future proofed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, i'm thinking of the following setup but would like to just run it by you guys before i part with the dollar, to make sure everything is compatible and i haven't got any major bottlenecks:

Your basket
Product Name Qty Price Line Total
AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £135.11
(£114.99) £135.11
(£114.99)
Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
(£68.08) £79.99
(£68.08)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £65.99
(£56.16) £65.99
(£56.16)
Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366) £29.99
(£25.52) £29.99
(£25.52)

Only thing I'm not sure about is the RAM as it states (as do many like it) that they've been specifically built for intel?

cheers.

Hey shrekhead :)

That all looks fine . . . for similar money you could change that mobo from a 4+1/No-Heatsink PWM model to an 8+2/Heatsinked PWM model which would be a tad more suitable for an AMD® Phenom™ II X6 system . . . both will work fine just that having more PWM's and ones that are well cooled make life a little less stressful for the system!

OK you're losing me a little there BW, I did a quick google on PWM and am now more confused than before i started the search :)

Not even sure what part of the spec tells me that it's a 4+1 No-heatsink so not sure how i go about finding an 8+2 heatsinked one, can you post one of a similar spec that you're refering to so I can check it out. Is that RAM I posted there also ok?

Thanks again, Shrek.
