I've been using XBMC on my Acer Revo 3700 4gb (windows 7) and I'm happy with it, it looks good with the “Transparency” skin and runs fine.

However, I'm just wondering what everyone else uses and why did they pick that?? I don't use it for live TV, just films and TV series on DVD

Am I missing anything by using xbmc and not something else?

All my media is stored as .mkv btw.

MSI Media Live HTPC it was a barebones sytem, only cost me about 200 quid to build as I weren't looking to spend a fortune on one. I'm using Windows Media Centre and XBMC.

Custom HTPC + 2tb local storage for tv + movies, no live tv needed here

software is barebones W7 Media centre + codec pack + VLC if needed

Custom HTPC using XBMC for video. Reason for a PC is I can also play emulated console games/pc games/internet. I can also easily switch on and off 3d. :)
I used to use MPHC and manually browse folders. :o

Nothing is stored locally as I have a WHS and for live TV I just switch over to the HD recorder in the TV itself.

I don't really use it for audio, I have a squeezebox for that so the TV/HTPC doesn't have to be on.

XBMC Live with the Transparency skin, on a custom built htpc (mini-itx / ION based with Atom processor). Works fine with all media I've tried so far (inc HD), and I've been very impressed with how fast xbmc live can start up.

Only had it a few weeks - it's replacing a (very) old PC running XP & mediaportal (with the streamedmp skin). To say the new one is an improvement is a bit of an understatement (!)

All media is on a remote pc running Linux (debian).

Custom PC (laptop cpu, 4350 gpu), running boxee (still need to try xbmc/mp). Plays 720p fine (my tv is only 720p) but doesn't quite do 1080 in boxee.

Currently Media Centre and Media Browser and every thing's crammed in to a rather overpowered Lian LI v351, which chews through anything I through at it. Media Centre handles all my TV recording work, and does it rather well I might add.

I still watch the normal five channels on analogue, mainly because my telly is cheap and cumbersome to operate, but everything else is done via Media Centre.

At some point next year an antique ATCS 210 is waiting for some serious attention and will be turned in to a full on media server. I might also finally get around to buying a proper telly/audio setup, get everything integrated and live the 21st century digital lifestyle dream. :o

Custom HTPC running Win7 MediaCentre. Live Tv via the installed dual channel Freeview card, everything else (TV Series, Movies) via MediaBrowser.

All media is kept on a seperate box (Windows Home Server) access via gig ethernet. The WHS also runs MetaBrowser 2 to take care of all my info and artwork.
