I got a HP proLiant DL320 server....
it's got an infineon 128mb DDR1 stick in HYS72D16500GR-7-a, 128mb, DDR, PC2100R-20330-L, CL2, ECC, REG

I've tried two lots of memory for it...
the last one was Super Talent PC3200, 512mb, DDR400, 2Bank, 32Mx8, ECC, REG
P/N: D32RB12P3

now I pulled up the data sheet on the infinion and a part from the speed I found only one diference.... the infinion is 9 chip single bank and the ST is 18 chip double bank....

The server rejects the new memory...
Can someone tell me if the server is being overly pedantic if so can anyone surgest RAM for it...

Thanks

PS, no posts askin what ECC is... go do a search it was posted a while back....

As long as your BIOS has set up ECC correction ok, it should run. However, this can change with opteron and zeons.
Also your speeds are a factor. PC2100 or PC3200. Ensure your mobo can handle the speeds without derating the values.
Good ECC Registered RAM OEM's are

OCZ SSER series
Corsair R series
Kingston KVR series

There are many others but I have never had probs with the above lots.

This is a HP server their is no option it wants ECC

The server is a G2.... FSB at 266... thats what it's supposed to run at.... I don't mind if it runs faster ram slow....

I can't controll what they put in the server, however, OCUK has stopped doin ECC ram so we had to look else where....

Strangly, were only just down the road from OCUK... I'll have to throw them a stone....

Finding good ECC Reg RAM is getting harder in the UK and more expensive.

The BIOS for ECC Correction can help in several ways. Certain mapping options help with different manufacturers. I disable all scrubbing, swizzling and any AMD CPU correction.

Although not in front of PC to help that much. Doing the above with opterons and old SMART TECHNOLOGY ram helped.

However, not knowing the HP bios options for the 320 off my head doesnt help.

I will look when at home to give a more in depth view. As with DDR400, 333, 266 all are backward compatable, but will not perform at the desired limits. And on that note overclocking ECC REG Ram is very, very complex. You should be able to adjust the physical latency responce times to compensate for slower speeds.

Their are no bios options to adjust anythin to do with CPU speed, ram timings or anything like that....

And they stopped selling SCSI drives aswell.

If there is no way to adjust settings from the inside then, bugger......

This kind of RAM is a doozey. Hit and Miss.

This link shows PC3200 DDR400 advanced ECC Ram. Never heard of it!!!!!
