What memory to buy when overclocking i7 4820K?

If you have the go for the Asus x79 Deluxe + 4820k, using both and my 4820k is running at 4.6ghz at 1.344v 24/7

My review Asus x79 Deluxe[ full supports ivy-e] + 4820k

Ok, glad I re-read your review!

So am I right in thinking the 4770K can be faster than the 4820K? But there is some sort of "lottery" with getting a good 4770K chip?

I need the best single-thread performance

Yes, you can get a good or bad overclocking CPU its a lottery anyway, but in Haswell case the lottery is a lot worse.

When overclocking the Haswell produces more heat as well as the CPU voltage increase's.

But don't forget you can upgrade to a 4930k 6 core later if needed, Haswell you can't, x79 is Quad Channel, Haswell Dual.

I choose X79 because of the above, why is single thread performance important and do you intend to overclock your CPU?

Try reading some reviews online for both to help you as well.

The only way to guarantee a good clocking hw such as the 4770k, is to purchase the ocuk extreme bundle. These feature speed bined chips that have been delidded to help with temps. It's only in synthetic stress tests such as p95 that hw runs hot. In normal tasks they run as cool as any other modern intel cpu.

Hi setter, didn't know the Xtreme Bundle was Delidded.

Yep, theyre delidded and the intel paste is replaced with liquid pro/ultra. Though ocuk do leave the black glue in place that holds the ihs on. Most people who delid will remove this so that the ihs sits closer to the die. Means you have to mount the cpu in the board first, then carefully align the ihs on top before closing the socket lever. Another option is to use a naked mounting kit where the waterblock makes direct contact with the die. Without this kit theres a real risk of crushing the die when bolting the block into place.
