Atm im running a asus p5kc mb with a q6600 @3.2ghz overclock and a 4gb set of Kingston Hyper-X DDR2-800 Memory Modules (PC2-6400). Oh the ram is tweaked for timings based on 266 speed so 4.4.4. somit its running 1:1 with the cpu atm.

Should i grab a 2gb hyper x module off the bay for 25 quid to make the ram 6gb which im assuming wouldnt need to go in bios or should i go for some dd3 (not sure which is compatible with my board and wouldnt like at all to update bios as its a pain and id lose all my overclocking profiles in bios storage. The ddr3 on my mb is just 2 slots.

I was thinking of upgrading to 8gb of ram. Which ram should i go after that i could swap and not really touch the bios but keep the 3.2ghz overclock?

Its a ddr2 or ddr3 motherboard iirc.

Been fine mostly with 4gb but have bf3 coming in the mail early next week plus it might speed windows up a little here and there with more than 4gb too i was thinking.

Your motherboard only takes a maximum of 4GB of DDR3 (2x2GB) so there's no point in going down that route.

Adding another 2GB stick of DDR2 giving you 3 sticks (I assume you have 2x2GB already) will mess up the dual channel operation.

You may consider having 6GB is more beneficial than having dual channel.

For 8GB you'll have to add another 2x2GB sticks of DDR2.

Filling more than 2 RAM slots may affect your overclock.

I assume you have a 64 bit operating system to make use of more than 4GB of RAM.

FYI I would have thought running your existing RAM at 800MHz would be more beneficial than running at ~533MHz with tighter timings.

Yes i have 4gb already 2x2gb modules.

Not sure if dual channel is better than having more ram, what would be the trade offs. For 8gb yeah i would need another 2 sets of 2gb modules but their pricey the ones i have for some reason tho they are holding good on the value as i think I only pay'd about £25-30 on mm about 2-3 years ago.

Hoped filling more than 2 slots wouldn't effect the overclock as long as it was same brand and stuff.

Yes win 7 ultimate 64bit.

Possibly about speed but i was always taught in the olden days that timings were better.

Shame about dd3 being only 2x2gb instead of 2x4gb to make 8gb tho i thought i read that ppl have done it but needed a bios update.

So in all its either grab some more hyper x memory for more memory but i might lose the dual channel operation or do nothing and hope the comp is fine for awhile longer which its been ok up to now but i thought more ram might have been good these days.
