Ok I'm sure you get loads of these threads but I have no idea what type of memory I should get or how to find out what type I need?
I currently have 2gb and want another 2gb, where do I start and what do I buy?
Cheers

hi, first thing to do is find out what motherboard you have.

if you dont know there are loads of free software that you can download that will tell you.

pc wizard

everest etc

once you know we can take it from there mate :p

Thanks, CPU-Z tells me I'm running a Foxconn 965X7AA FAB1.2 and the memory is DDR2 333MHz, 2 slots used, 2 free. Strangely enough I've just found the email with the spec from when I bought it and it says 2GB DDR2 RAM, 667 MHz , does that mean CPU-Z is picking it up wrong or is it under performing? Does higher MHz = Higher performance or what?

the higher the MHz the greater the speed of the ram = greater performance,

cpu-z will see the speed of ram as half its actual value though, DDR2 800 cpu-z will read this to be running at 400MHZ

as DDR = double data rate so it really is running at 800MHZ (double 400MHz)

now...you motherboard supports ddr2 5300 and 4200

so the ideal ram for you would be...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... Vista Upgrade Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2VU6674GK)

and just sell the ram you have just now, its not advised to mix brands of ram together, they very often create system instability

Also looking to get 4gb for my laptop, its a Dell XPS M1330, the official Dell stuff is £60 and has these specs:

Memory Speed : 667MHz
Package_Type : 200-pin SODIMM
Technology : DDR2 SDRAM
Data Integrity Check : Non-ECC

Would this stuff from OcUK at half the price be just as good?
