Whilst the sarcasm and general condescending wording of your posts is appreciated. I was under the impression that the router must be directly connected to the first node with no switch in between. Only after the first node can a switch be used.

You can definitely connect the Deco via a switch. Just be sure to put it in AP mode (not router mode) and you'll be fine. That way, it will act as an extension of your LAN. Your router/whatever device you're currently using will handle DHCP. This is called having a "flat" network (no isolation or traffic segmentation).

Unmanaged switches are just dumb layer 2 devices. They move packets in and out.
