Hi Guys,

I've decided to burn my whole collection onto hard drive and get rid of all the discs.

What is a fail safe way to do this? I have 500 or so CD's and worry about just burning them onto a hard disk might one day cause me to lose all of it!

Any suggestions?

Well you might lose all of it, so you have a backup strategy in place for when that drive eventually fails. I did it years ago, not as many CD as you (~300 I think), I keep a local copy on PC 1, a networked copy on my NAS, and a 3rd copy on a HD on PC 2. The CDs are also in a box in the attic!

If your not an audiophile. you could mp3 them all at max quality.

then burn them to 50gig Blu ray disks. then store the disks in the dark away from sunlight somewhere :)

Also avoid taking disks on planes, high altitudes = more cosmic ray exposure = bad. yes im messing but its still real.

Lastly.. you cant get rid of the original discs. or whole world will think you just "PIRATED" all that stuff :P
