Hi all

I've been looking at getting a new 16GB Micro SD card for my SE X10 but I have noticed that a lot of them have different speed ratings. They seem to range between Class 2 and 6 depending on the manufacturers and the size.
So what seem to be the best Micro SD cards to go for and what are the most reliable??

Class 6 is the best at the moment as they have the fastest transfer rate. Sandisk and Kingston are good quality brands to look for. Beware of forgeries around though.

ive just gone for a class 2 as its the cheapest

From what someone else told me on another forum, if you want to run app's off the memory card you want to look at a class 6 card.

My understanding is that class 2 is fine for media though.

class 2 is fine to run apps off the SD card ;)

on the phone, mine runs at write 3MB/s, read 14MB/s

I've found that class can make a big difference, as you'd expect, however, some lower class rating ones offer better performance/speed than they claim. A case of suck it and see. I have a 16 gig class 6, and a friend has a class 2, which according to transfer rates, is faster than class 4. Both are sandisc

Stick with SanDisk. They're the gold standard in microSD cards.

But as mentioned above, watch out for fakes. Buy from a reputable source and be wary of any cards that seem too cheap.

As far as I'm aware 32GB cards currently are only available as Class 2 - so it would seem silly if you couldn't run apps off one of those.
That's what I've got in my Desire - Class 2 Sandisk 32GB

I may order the 32Gb sandisk this week..

Just not sure if i what spend about £80:( on just a memory card again..
I remember when i payed out about £120 for a 2GB sony duo card for my PSP and then a few months later they dropped to about £40

Ive got a 16gb PNY card (about £25) which is a class 2 but is more like a class 4 for speed and its fast enough when using apps2sd.

My (limited) understanding is its not a case of you can't run app's off a class 2, its that if you're running an application from the memory card you want a fast transfer rate.

If app's are running smoothly on class 2's etc I'd be curious to see which ones - I'm waiting on my Desire turning up, and an upgraded SD card will be one of the first I buy. And if I can spend less than I thought I had to, thats a big brucey bonus :)

Has any of you used or heard of Transcend micro SD cards?? I been looking at a Class 6 one but I've never heard of Transcend before.

i saw a big diffirence when i went from a cheapo class 2 to a class 6, i only have a 8gb which is enough for now, if you buy a 32gig you will be paying way over the odds, as soon as 64giger take off the 32 will plummet, i recommend a 16gig high class card for value and speed

64GB microSD cards will be a VERY long time coming - firstly because they'll be on a whole new standard, microSDXC, and secondly because the technology to create them doesn't exist yet.

i still wouldn't buy a 32GB one until prices hit £50 or less.

I doubt apps will run badly on a class 2 they have a 2mbps write speed and apps aren't more than a few mbs, I don't really think it will be a problem, I'm not shelling out for a class 4 or 6 etc not worth it, I only do big transfers while loading music
