Hi guys,

I was gonna go with an i3, but from all the good things that are said about the i5 2500 and the Z68 combo i think i need to go for it.

I'm really skint, so what good mid range guard should I match up to those to parts? Somewhere in the region for 120-150 quid.

Hi there, If you are going for the i5 2500, make sure you get the 2500K as only this version can be overclocked properly.

As for a good mid-range card, in that price bracket you should be able to afford a HD 6870 or GTX 560. Though if you can push the budget slightly to £160 you could get the very nice GTX 560 Ti.

Depending on what games you play more.

If you play mmos more, it's better to get 2500K and a 6870; if you play FPS and general games more, it's better to get a i3 and a GTX560Ti 2GB/6950 2GB.

To give you an idea, for mmos that I play where I used to get frame rate dip down to as low as 25-30fps on my old Q6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz is now at constant 55-60fps after I upgraded to the 2500K overclocked to 4.5GHz, despite on the same 5850.

ok sorry chums .. got them wrong way. I reverse it.

Ok thanks mate, so for MMO you need more graphics cards and for FPS you need more CPU power. Awesome I go get some good parts then.
ahhh you still got it the wrong way round. I'll make it as clear for you as possible-

Say if you got a budget of £300 for CPU and graphic card:

For mmos, spend more on CPU i.e. i5 2500K (around £170) + 6870 1GB (around £130)

For FPS, spend more on graphic card i.e. i3 2120 (£100) + 6950/GTX560Ti 2GB/GTX560Ti 448core 1.25GB (£200).

But you might want to wait a bit to see what the new gen cards that are coming at £200 performance gonna be like first.

Second hand 6950's can be had for £150 or less. One of these paired to a 2500K would make a very decent gaming system. If you really want a new card, GTX560 TI's are about the fastest you can get for £150.

The 6870 is a good solid card for £130ish, but a GTX560 TI is faster, and the 6950 (used) is faster still.
