What mmorpg to play?

*waits for the Eve brigade*

There is a 10 day trial - unfortunately it takes longer than 10 days to REALLY enjoy Eve.

Avoide rf online at all costs, I think its the worst game I've ever played.

Also I can't see the fascination with eve. Its time based rather than grinding. Which sucks.

Yea I tried RF Online recently too, looked kinda nice in some places but by time I hit lvl 20 I just got fed up with the grind. EQ2 has been out a while so it should be resonably well polished (in theory) and it still looks nice.

Everquest 2 = 15day trial.
Shadowbane = 10 day trial.
WoW = 15 / 10 day trial.
EvE as above ^

i'm strugling to find a mmorpg to play atm also signed up for lord of the rings online and cabal & star trek online

Eve is my main, but I recently tried Saga of Ryzom again, and it's really dragged me in. Crafting and foraging skills remind me of SWG pre the CU. The way there are seasons with appropriate weather and realistic movement of herds of animals with predators following them is really cool.

Also - best community ever. Really, it's like a kind of anti-WoW. The free trial is unlimited as long as you don't leave the noob island, with no credit card details required. The noob island has a good month content in it if you dig it all out.

Beware, the beginner island is nothing like the actual main game and you will probably feel isolated and get bored extremely quick. Try to get onto the main island as quick as possible as otherwise you will probably leave due to boredom and the 'is this it?' feeling.

AVOID RF ONLINE AT ALL COSTS.

Is Saga of Ryzom really that good? What's there to do? Someone convince me to play it :p

Ah yes made by the GOD of mmorpgs - Lord British himself.

Although Huxley might pan out better as they seem to be very similar :eek:

I realy like RF Online, grind at Lvl20 :eek: you should try getting to lvl40 lol

I am waiting for Vanguard: Saga Of Heroes, but as Sony Online Entertainment are going to have a hand in it I am suddenly not so excited really. Considering City Of Villains since a friend plays it and says it's top notch, and as a good bonus it's also by NCSoft.

They've changed the noob island in Ryzom in the last month or so. Lots of people around, loads of groups. You won't feel in the least bit isolated, I guarantee. I've got no inclination to leave, and I've been there for weeks. There is ALWAYS a guide or GM on the island to answer questions, and people are extremely helpful.

The only thing I dislike about it is that the noob island is gun-free. It's all spells and melee weapons, you can't get your hands on a gun until you hit the mainland.

There are a LOT of ex SWGer's playing the game, from pre CU. That should tell you what to expect to a large degree. The skill trees work in a similar fashion, you gain points to spend on a skill the more you use it.

Edit - the client is also free. Once you decide to subscribe, all you pay is the monthly fee.

I've gone back to EQ2 and i must say its matured nicely.

I was on the beta and played for a while on release till most of my guild went to wow then i called it a day.

I went back 2 weeks ago and even though some of the harder elements have been toned down (mainly the death penalties have been nerf down allot), there is allot more solo content and the game is allot more polished than it was.

After what they did to SWG i didnt hold out much hope but EQ2 has actually impressed mel.
