Hey guys, you alright?

I'm buying my first car soon, well as soon as possible realy!

I've got my heart set on a Saxo VTR, and that's the only car I will buy! I love the look of them, and they're just... sweet! So before I go on, no one try and talk me into getting a different car! :p

I've only got £2k to spend on one. I don't know what modle to go for, both the mk1 and mk2 are nice, but I'd rather, I think... go for a mk2.

Lol, what a stupid thread

D'you think I should wait untill there's a nice mk2 for sale, or just buy a mk1?

Poor choice of car imo.

Awful build quality, just about the easiest car on the to 'half inch' and totally unsafe.

if its definitely a saxo for 2k id say go for a mk2 as it'll more than likely have less rattles and pieces missing

As it will be your first car i suggest you look at furio's. Its the 1.4 8v and its not slow in anyones books for a first car. My mate has one and its a nice little car and a decent amount cheaper to insure than a vtr

I think that by getting a VTR for your first car, you're going to get absolutely raped on the insurance!

Only one I know of is the VTR is an 8v and VTS is 16v.

I'm sure there is more though.
IIRC it's Single overhead camshaft (SOHC) on the VTR, and Double overhead camshaft (DOHC) on the VTS aswell as the extra 8valves...

There aren't many engins that doubling the valves DOESN'T mean doubling the number of cams :) I can only think of one...

VTR/VTS as a first car = bad idea.

Agreed, I just ran a quote on me (but saying I'm 17 instead of 16) and the cheapest (fully comp) was £2593.54  from Highway Insurance (on Moneysupermarket.com)

There's quite a lot of them around, Honda, Mitsubishi and Hyundai all make or recently have made 16v SOHC engines. Yamaha and Suzuki have both made big single cylinder bikes with a single cam and 4 valves.

It's not a modern invention either, Bentley made several engines with 4 valves per cylinder and SOHC back in the 1920's, e.g. the Speed 6.

Apparently Triumph knocked out some fragile thing with this configuration as well ;)
