Hi all

Im looking to get a new monitor to game on, I currently have an ACER S240HL 60hz 24inch

I have recently purchased an RX590 8GB so plenty of ooomph to get decent frames. My budget is limited to £160 which is not a lot but i want something maybe a little bigger and better.

SYSTEM SPECS:

Ryzen 2600
16gb 3200mhz Team group Vulcan DDR4
RX570 4GB (RX590 on its way)
EVGA 500W Power Supply
480gb Kingston SSD
120gb Kingston SSD

Any help or recommendations appreciated

Thanks

I think this might be a nice upgrade - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...-widescreen-led-gaming-monitor-mo-054-ao.html

You'll still be at 1080p and at 24" seems to be the sweet spot.
The only problem with the above is that it's only 75Hz refresh rate instead of 144Hz. You can get the 144Hz model but it's a little bit over your budget, however I'm sure many people would say that it's worth doing to pair with your 590. :)

Cheers bud... I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to monitor so have no idea what to look out for, would you say I'd be best of sticking with what I have and save some more and get 144hz monitor

No worries dude! I think it would be worthwhile saving an extra £10-20 to stretch to the AOC 24G2U, or you could even wait as I'm sure it'll come down in price if you're patient. They've been fluctuating a lot recently. Lots of reviewers say the 24G2U is essentially the best 1080p gaming monitor out there. It's got 144Hz, works with FreeSync and it's IPS which some people like, others don't. Also the stand has full tilt, swivel and height adjustment, which is rare for monitors in that price range.

A word of warning though don't mistake the 24G2U for the 24G2U5, That's the one I linked you and that's the one with 75Hz refresh rate. I was a bit dubious about the refresh stuff myself until my friend showed me his new 144hz monitor and then did a test on it. It does make a big difference, but I suppose if you like smooth animations and what not.

But yea best value for money 1080p monitor at the moment is that. When you go to 1440p then prices go up sharply. Hope that helps!

That's a great help bud, I'll be sure not to mix the monitors when looking.. I may be able to stretch that extra bit, will have to work out my bills for the rest of the month first though.. Is there a link for the other monitor just so I know its the right one...

I do like the smooth animations, I also watched a few videos of side by side comparisons with different HZ monitors and you see things sooner on higher HZ monitors which will help as me and my missus play PUBG and other online shooters

I've watched a few youtube videos on monitors and came across the AOC 24G2 This can be had for around £180... Is that a decent 1080p 144hz to go for?

It's hard to say really, it's one of those things where yes IPS colours are better/more accurate or something but at the end of the day you're unlikely to sit with an IPS monitor and a TN monitor. Plus you'll probably just get used to it.

There's also this monitor which is 144Hz and IPS - It's the ASUS VP249QGR and also Acer Nitro VG240YP.

Unless you're in a rush it might be worth waiting, or you can get a TN panel one and save yourself a bunch of money. I've not really looked at many TN monitor reviews myself to be honest. I have heard nothing but good things about the AOC one though, but it'll be back in stock eventually. :)

I might just wait, I'm in no rush I suppose... The AOC one is probably my best bet and due back in stock this month at most sites I've checked...

Thanks for your input mate

No problems dude! Put it this way, you're ready to buy should it come back in stock. You've already got a monitor that works. Keep an eye out and also take the time to check the reviews and what not.

There's a guy on the web called NCX and he has a whole list of monitor reviews but he also sources other monitor reviews for his comparison if he hasn't been able to personally get a unit himself but he goes into mega detail about it and has a category for most monitor classes.

Here's a copy paste of his 24-27" 1080p 144Hz monitor post.

1.) AOC 24G2U (TPV IGZO IPS)
