Alrighty I didnt even know what to call this thread but anyways I've been wondering which brand of monitors are able to tilt round to be used in portrait mode?

I think there are dell ones that do it but I dont have a clue

You could always buy a bracket capable of doing it.

As for the monitor, the driver settings tell the monitor which way round it is facing.

I don't think my expliantion was very good lol

Im looking for monitors that can be turned whilst on the stand as in physically turned round

You are looking for monitors that can be rotated 90 degrees and put into portrait mode. :)

A number of monitors are capable of this (although perhaps not as many as some people would like). It is mainly the business-oriented models that offer this level of flexibility - business and professional models from Dell, Samsung, LG and Iiyama to name but a few. The key thing to look out for is the models with the slightly plain looking matte bezels and quite heavy duty stands - do you have a particular budget and usage requirements in mind? The biggest problem is that some of the cheaper models with this functionality are TN panels with particularly poor vertical viewing angles - once you flip them into portrait mode this translates into a very noticeable difference in colour and brightness from one side of the screen to the other and it's not very pretty. :p

yeh thats what i was looking for! lol im not very good with explaining.

I'm not too fussed about how much they cost but the cheaper the better and nothing too extreme. I'm going to be using a lot of 3dsmax/maya and photoshop. I know that IPS screens are best for this (better colours etc) so maybe IPS capable of rotating ? but thats not entirely necessary unless its a fair price.....

I'm not going to have a massive amount of space so would be handy to be able to rotate the monitor or monitors if I got more

Cheers lads, had a browse through some of them and im amazed at the prices for an IPS panel, I expected a bit dearer tbh but anyways thanks again gunna keep on looking until its time to splash the cash lol

If you get a monitor arm or desk mount that supports rotating and a monitor that conforms to the VESA standard (nearly all) you could future proof yourself a bit. Also opens up new options as to which monitors you can buy.

Most monitor arms are quite expensive due to the use of a gas spring. The desk mounts are cheaper as they're much simpler.

Tip: If you get a monitor arm or desk mount, get one that supports at least 27" monitors. You never know what the future brings!
(Got a Ergotron MX Desk Mount LCD Arm myself - quite happy with it)

I'll say!
I STRONGLY suggest going for a IPS monitor as i have experienced this first hand with a TN panel and regret it.

Would say the 24" Dell U2412M IPS Widescreen LED Monitor should cover all bases and not to badly priced for IPS alternativly the LG IPS236V-PN is even cheaper but doesn't have the rotate so would need a monitor arm that rotates.

yes its only really useful on IPs if the screen is large.. My u2410 does but not the u2711

Cheers for all the input guys, been doing some looking around and the prices do vary but I'll be reading up on reviews and stuff before I buy
