Hi,

eventually going for a build next week

desided on following

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 LGA775
already got a bfg 8800gtx gfx card and power supply

so i need a suitable motherboard and memory
looking at the p35s inparticular but what one???

dont specificaly need wifi
dont specificaly need firewire

a possability for over clocking would be nice
the need for 4 gig memory would be needed at a later date
any pointers to motherboard and matching memory that will work nicely with the above gfx card and cpu would be welcome :)

do you need RAID?

Don't skimp on your PSU & 2x 2GbDIMMs is preferred over 4x 1Gb.

Anyway, the abits & Gigabytes seem pretty sound but there seems to be a growing no. of people complaining about Asus P5K Deluxe problems.
I'm guessing that budget isn't too much of a problem though so you might want to checkout the IP35 Pro & the P35-DQ6/DS4.

no problem with a power supply i got a new 600w ps :)
no need for raid
was planning on getting 2 x 2 gigs rather than 4 x 1 gig sticks :)
budget left for motherboard and memory would be about 200-250

I’ve read the suggestion somewhere, I think on these forums, that 4 x 1 GB Ram modules are a better prospect for overclocking than 2 x 2 GB.

Is there some variation of opinion on this?.

I don't want to hear that, having just bought one, and completely blown my budget out of the water! I got a little upgrade happy......

Any of the P35 boards are suitable. Tho if budget is an issue then the Gigabyte P35-DS3 can be had for ~£65, tho not at OcUK for some reason.

As for the 4gb kits, the other PC6400 ones are closer to £200. But you can pick up the 2x2gb OCZ PC5400 for £93 from here if you don't mind going for slower memory.

Gigabyte P35-DS3R and the G.Skill PQ PC2-6400 if you can find it in stock.

ok think i will settle for the above,i have found another company with the Skill PQ PC2-6400 memory in stock,
final question ,as i have a BFG 8800 GTX which is bit of a beast in size, i know that there are some cases that have problems with the size of this gfx, i have made sure the case i have will accommidate this card ,but will this card fit the gigabyte mb? ie no components will get in the way due to the length of the card?
cheers for the info :)
