what next for me....

My job title is:
Registered General Nurse (Perioperative), Royal Air Force.

Thought about Nursing in the RAF?

Are you?

I've had major difficulties getting the Armed Services in to give talks on health/nursing careers.
Last year 4 of my students went off to do what you are doing.
I got a Lieutenant Commander (!) James Hayton in for talks on Trauma surgery in the Armed Services.

you gave up?
shocking, after all the posts about you being really up for it, you bottled it.

How do you get out of the army? I thought it was a pay to get out thing. I failed my fitness test when i was 16 and ended up in every dead end factory job going. I can't believe you have giving this up as it's one of my life's dream's.

[edit] I'm 34 now but i still would join.

Its no longer possible to 'buy your way out'. Now, most trades have a notice period of 12 months.

34 is not too old to join for certain trades!!

If you want to start somewhere in the field.. perhaps a career in the Ambulance Service..

The starting point would be as an ECA and there are plenty of ways up (Atleat in WMAS I don't know about other services) they give you a chance to progress to Tech and Para and FCP (Or ECP in most other areas)

If you want the job description, let me know.

Oh shows my age that lol. When i was a lad it was nearly £800 to get out even in basic training. Yeah but then trades offered I'd be no good at, I wanted special forces when i was younger still do.

I tried out for the para's when i left school to find i was asthmatic, bugger:mad:

I've spent 12 years in the Air Force, the last 7-8 of them in the Operating Theatre speciality but i don't recognise that name.....Navy!

How do you mean 'went off to do what i'm doing'!? Serving their country? Nursing in the Military?

Ref/ Arranging talks....Contact MOD and enquire. We cannot just 'tip up' and discuss aspects of Military business.

I'm pretty sure he was in the Air Force, served in Afghanistan & Iraq and is a trauma expert.
I have his Powerpoint Presentation at work and he's my new hero.
I've emailed myself to see if I can give you more info.

They are now 1 year into whatever training they are doing for nursing in the military.
Sadly I don't follow up how they get on once they've left me.

I've had them all in twice before but this time I'm coming up against brick walls.
The Air Force were willing to come in but she would have to travel halfway across the country to speak to 10 students so I called it off.

Lieutenant Commander is a Royal Navy rank..

:D
And that's why I'm not a Careers Support Officer in the Forces.

Yes definitely the Navy then because he actually mentioned that James Bond was a Commander and he had only got to Lieutenant Commander.
One student did then ask if James Bond was real.

sounds like you quit before you started if you were thinking about college whilst still training! grow up and stop wasting peoples time lol

if you want to go into healthcare try your nurse training. bit of a thread revival i know but only just stumbled on this. i can help you out if you need any more information.

Changed my mind completely now, i just wanna get any job now in warehouse/factory and get on with it. Ive signed on the dole today i wanna get off that asap:)

=/

Just curious, have you ever had a fulltime job before?

Christ, Warehouse/factory work is so bloody mind numbingly boring. You can feel your brain cells dieing.
