Just sold both my 5870's and got a good price for them both £480:eek:
what do you suggest i do now
sit it out and wait for 6870 - 6990 and xfire ( or what ever they are called )
or 480 sli ?
reason i sold, sick of ati drivers and they are only going to loose even more money when the 6000 cards arrive.

i thought 470sli and 5870xfire were side by side ? or am i wrong ?
i just dont know if i can wait 4 - 5 weeks for ati, plus im sure the driver will be the same as ever

Personally, if his mobo supports it, I think the OP should buy four 480's for some quad action. :D If your mobo doesn't support that then buy a new one. :D

In all seriousness you may as well wait another week or two for the ATI 6000 series, it's so close now.

Btw...you aren't a relative of Opeth, are you? :D (j/king)

How fast is the 6870, I read somewhere that its just a bit faster than hd5850 but is going to cost less!

Some rumours have that AMD will rename the Barts "6770", i.e. the upper mid-range card of the 6-series, to "6870". This card would be a little faster than the 5850, but cost less and use slightly less power (if rumoured specs, TDP and performance are to be believed). But whatever the name (6770 or 6870), this is still the upper of the two "mid-range" offerings.

It looks to be 2/3 the chip of the full Cayman GPU, which will have three RPEs (render and processing engine; a largely self-contained block of 640 shaders, grouped into batches of 4), for a total of 1920 shaders. The Barts chip has two RPEs for a total of 1280.

We have no solid word on performance, other than ATIs stated intention to "compete" with the GTX460 on price (with the Barts 6770/6870).

Wait for the 6 series then get 480 sli, the worst thing that will happen is the price will stay the same. Hopefully the new cards will push nvidia into some price reductions if they knock 50 quid off a 480 thats 100 quid you save, worth waiting a few weeks for?

From what Iv gathered from the internet, the first card to come from the ATI 6000 series will be the 6870.

The general consensus is that it will be an expensive product.

Plus there wont be much stock untill november at the earliest.

All rumours however.... nothing is official, untill its official!

i sold my 5870 cf a few weeks ago,i was sick of the ati drivers, but more so the poor DX11 performance compared to nivida, bought 2 gtx470 but sent them back as in some games they were quite a bit slower than my 5870,found 2 for £335 each so i was quite happy, but be warned i hope you have good cooling because the heat i get from gtx480 sli is quite bad ,i have to put my fans at 90% to keep them cool, but the noise is doing ma head in,so im looking to get a couple of waterblocks and add them into my loop...i think you have already made up your mind about fermi anyway..good luck mate
