Was in my ICT lesson on Friday, had my iPhone out as it has lots of notes on my ICT coursework on their, my teacher (mr x) doesnt mind people using the pdas etc etc or listening to music while they work as it keeps them quiet n stops them distracting other people in the class.

Now the head of department walks in, all chilled and acting cool, he looks at me and says i would loveee to confiscate an iphone, i go aww, then he goes i could confiscate that right now if i wanted to, i said not really, its mr x's lesson and he doesnt mind us using our things. He replies with i dont care im the head of this so i can confiscate it if i want to, i replied with, you cant walk into someone elses lesson, start bellowing you can confiscate what you want. He doesnt reply turns around and talks to mr x, i mutter something along the lines of jobsworth as im pretty annoyed at this guy, he turns and says ive stepped over the line and do hand over the phone. I go fair enought, put a PASSWORD ON AND TURN IT OFF. He says to collect it at the end of the lesson.

Very well i think, fair enough, now i go to collect my iphone , he wants me top apologise etc etc ok i do etc its all fine, i walk out and head to sixth form centre. Take my iphone out and look at my phone and it has been switched ON, and there has been attempts to put in the password.

Im alarmed at this, go back to office and confront him about it, he says so what, i wanted to find your name, ( by going through my phone and files ) even when i am next door and so is mr x .

i told him this was inappropriate and im sure the Data protection Act comes in here somewhere. And i walk of annoyed.

I ask all my teachers etc what they thought of the situation, they where all surprised and said the teacher should never have turned on the mobile and on top tried to access it.

As far as im concerned there are 2 reasons for accessing the mobile,
1. you dont know who it belongs to at all ( eg found in street)
2. Inappropriate material.

What would you guys do in this situation, as i am so annoyed at the attitude this teacher holds thinking he can walk all over people. And be able to access other peoples data without consent.

I think you should punch him in the ovaries.

But seriously, that's out of order for the teacher to do that. I would take it up with a higher member of staff.

My tutor was speechless and thought i was joking when i said that story, could believe it happened.

Second part he was out of order, first part you were. You'd never have lost the phone were you not so cocky, however. Speaking as an ICT teacher :)

Honestly though, with attitude he strolled into the classroom with, it would have spiced anyone up, would it not, as it pretty much disturbs the whole class when he does stroll in.

Your not him by anychance are you, you goat ******* :p

Smash him repeatedly with an ICT keyboard. Repair it and then do it again.

Or do what I spent most of my computing lessons doing.

Creating VB programs that show photoshopped pictures of people when you click a button.

Remove the "0" and shift all the numbers down one and put the zero on the left of the keyboard.

Replace the mouse balls with marbles.

Put the fire extinguisher on the teachers' desk at the start of every lesson.

Set as many wallpapers to an MS Paint generated penis as humanly possible.

"Net send" "You are gay" to everyone in the class repeatedly.

Select all icons on the desktop and right click open to open them all at once. Repeat until you grow bored or your computer dies.

Or you could just tell you mum and/or make a complaint to the head of the school. That would be the logical thing to do wouldn't it now.

Your attitude stinks, but he shouldn't have been trying to go through your phone. Unfortunately if you 'take it higher' nothing will happen. He'll just say either
1)that it didn't make sense to interrupt the lesson further to find out your full name
2)it accidentally turned on
3)some other improbable explanation

Either way you will look like an idiot for 'telling' on a teacher. Next time he gets a chance he'll come down harder on you than he otherwise would do and the same will be true for other teachers who he's friends with.

If i was to take it higher would it definitely be along the lines of the Data protection act, specifically which part?

The data protection act has nothing whatsoever to do with his issue. It governs what can be done with data held by a body or company, and what rights people have regarding their information that is stored by said company or body.

You could argue it was an attempted invasion of your privacy, but that's got nothing to do with DPA, and is easily negated by a suspicion of illicit content on your phone.

We've only got your take on it, but I think when he said he'd love to confiscate an iPhone he was subtly hinting at you to put it away. He is, after all, head of department. I know at my school I don't, generally, let kids have phones out. In a class, if I did, I would still support my HoD if he chose to take a phone off a pupil - it's purely consistency in following the rules.

Take it on the chin, and perhaps show the chap a bit of respect. He might even show some back. :)

I wouldn't let it bother you, he's probably just jealous and on a power trip.

Although i can see where the guy is coming from, if i had the authority to wind some one up that was annoying me i would, and i'm sure you would too.

I'd just learn a lesson from it, we used to have teachers just the same and in the same situation. I would have just hidden it and kept quiet till i he left my sight.
