what operating system do you recommend??

Hello everyone, just wondering what operating system do you recommend for this base unit I have just purchased?

And also what protection do you recommend like antivirus software, firewall, spyware, malware and all that stuff?

Vista HP 64bit been running for the past year without any problems.

Firewall and AV I use Avast and windows built in firewall, but hopefully tomorrow I have Kaspersky comming tomorrow.

But Windows XP is your best bet.

Regarding windows, if you have a copy of XP just use that until Windows 7 comes out. Otherwise go for Vista HP 64bit, been using for over a year now with no problems.

I can recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. IMO definitely better then the free ones.

Nod32 4 Beta is currently open beta and free, might get a free copy if you submit any bugs/problems.

Personally I'd go Vista 64bit with that sort of setup.

Gotta be vista,You 4gb of ram and 32bit OS don't recogise 4gb.

Go for vista 64bit Home Premium.

As for antivirus and firewall i have used norton for yrs now,And i deffo recommend norton 2007/2008 Both are amazing

And of course the all time fav free spybot s&d for spyware

how much speed improvement gained for using 64bits OS?

i'd like to see some compare speed charts between 32 and 64bits

Lots of people still buy anti virus software, as mentioned, kaspersky is far better than any of the free ones, imo.

dont need to shout at him like that about it...

free av feel poor in comparison to eset/kaspersky

i don't use any myself, but on my family's machines, i always get nod32 licences for them, set and forget
