I have these slots

5.25" external Two (One available) 3.5" external Two (One available) 3.5" internal One (None available)
I wish to add another hard drive.

What options do I have?

I take it they go in the 3.5 internal which is full. Can I put them in the external?

turn off you pc, remove your HDD from the internal bay and put it in the external bay.
if it fits you have your answer.

from what i can find on that, it seems to me you connect the caddy to the MB via sata, and inside the caddy is another sata cable to go to *** HDD ,so i dotn see why there could be a performance drop

would the performance be as good as the hard drive fitted normally

It should be the same but you can also get 5.25" mounting kits for a lot cheaper if you don't need the ability to remove the drive (hot swap). The drive should fit in the external 3.5" bays no problem, the mounting holes are sometimes different which means your drive will sit in a different position to internal 3.5" bays but that shouldn't cause any problems. I have a 3.5" 150GB Raptor sitting in a Zalman enclosure in one of my 5.25" bays at the moment, you basically have the option of using the 3.5" bays or buying a caddy(like you chose above), silent enclosure or a mounting kit.

The Icy Box IB-138SK-B is SATA I.

If you want SATA II you need IB-138SK-B-II, but OcUK dont sell this one.

Is this what I need?
