8 gig(only a stick, that's a performance problem isn't? Wouldn't 2x4 be better?)

Came with windows 10 on it but it takes like 3 minutes to get to the desktop.

Technically: yes, BUT, it will not be the reason that it takes 3 minutes to reach the desktop. As suggested above: upgrade it to 16GB of RAM and a SSD, since I expect it has an HDD.

Right got a fresh install 100x better.

Asus P8H61 mx is the motherboard. What ram do I need? It has i5 3570

Likely be cheaper just to buy another stick of what is in there?

You can also check the Kingston and Crucial configurators and look for the part numbers they recommend, e.g.

Don't know what it is some generic crap probably. 16gig kits seem sub £20 on ebay so might as well do that?

What speed do I need? I might stick a faster processor in at some time if the board supports one

You can check what it is with CPU-Z.

I wouldn't bother if this is just a basic browsing/desktop PC. More memory and a SSD will do it fine.

Kingston's configurator suggests parts which are 1600, but I assume that's basic green JEDEC memory. The manual says 1333 or 1066 are fine.

It's going to have some light gaming.
I still wouldn't bother. The CPU is fine for the vast majority of older games. It is a quad core with 4 threads, so any game from the Intel stagnation era or a year or two after Ryzen launched will play just fine.

Unless I'm being a dummy, that model number is for TWO sticks, who or what ate the other one? They look a bit fancy, likely not worth trying to match that.

ainy got a clue. facebook market jobby. Was better than the i2500k i had when i kept up with hardware so I bought it £50.

So just get a set of 1600mhz ddr3?

Kingston's configurator suggested pn: KVR16N11/8, you can get those supposedly brand new for £11.50 each (plus postage, UK seller), at the moment.

There's other ways to do it, but that's what I'd do, unless you can find a better price for something from a recognised brand like Crucial or Corsair. E.g. there are these: CT102464BD160B, again claiming that they're unused, but I can't check compatibility because Crucial's checker just says "we don't sell DDR3".

I've got a laptop with a variant of that chip albeit 4 cores / 8 threads but slower clock speed and 32GB RAM w/ Samsung 870 Evo SSD and it boots Windows 10 in 20 seconds from power button press to fully loaded desktop (unless the OS is having a funny day / updates then it can take an age but that is just MS being ****).
