What paving for longevity?

I'm looking for some advice on what paving is best for a rental.

Basically previous tenant made a total mess of the place and decided to lay their own patio so now we have a lovely mixture of heights/sizes and random holes in it. Since a rather elderly gent has moved in it needs replacing for his safety.

I'm really not sure what material to go for. A couple of landscapers have been out and recommended either sandstone or block paving. Sandstone seems too pricey (I wouldn't even have it at mine) and I've only ever seen block paving on driveways, think it may look weird over a 64m area.

Obviously would prefer as little maintenance as possible as I doubt the tenant would look after it.

Are there any recommended types for long life time?

Basically 450mm or 600mm square or rectangular slabs, pressed concrete or faux stone, anything else gets very heavy.

Slabs it is then!

Both of them were trying to tell me sandstone was harder wearing.

I figured slabs would be fine just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks all!
