What phone should I upgrade to?

Well I finally ordered a new phone :D

I decided to go for the m8 in the end after so many recommendations to get it, I went and looked at phones again and decided on either the nexus 5 (I liked the feel of it) or the m8, but after thinking about it, I thought the m8 would be better for my uses :)

Partner has the first generation HTC One, if it's anything like that you won't be disappointed. (Meanwhile I'm stuck with HTC's first ever smartphone, the Desire. :()

Good buy, i'm sure you'll love it and this time in 2 years time you'll be singing its praises to people who are unsure as to what they should get :p

I normally chastise people for this sort of opinion because it never stops but you might find the next month or so is a bit mental for interesting new phones.. Z3, iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy Alpha (S5 Prime or whatever they call it), new Nexus not too far away, new Moto X etc etc.

To be fair you've made probably the best choice although I personally have a Z2 as the One M8 is a great handset and in no imminent danger of replacement.

Nice :D. I really like the M8 expect that stupid front logo that enrages me as it makes the phone much taller then it need be.

ahem..

I've just upgraded to an N5 from the old HTC Desire. The Desire was a decent phone and never let me down, but the extremely small internal memory was absolutely crippling.

Now I've got the N5 I can actually install more than 1 app!

How on earth do you end up stuck with one of those? Even with a 2 year contract you must be well out of contract now? Or did you take a massive contract just before it was discontinued?

Surely that would be a 4 or 5 year contract? Do they exist?

Since the Desire (which I got 2nd hand after it was discontinued) I've had an Galaxy S2 (full 2 years), S3 and now Nexus 5.

Using a Desire must be... frustrating now. Wow.

What a shot in the arm it must be going from a Desire to a Nexus 5. :D

Y' tellin' me! :D

I guess its how mobile companies get you, relying on peoples laziness to not switch/upgrade! Its the last time I do that though, as really, I was massively overpaying for my service each month.

I used a desire for about a week when my HTC One went in to have its screen repaired. My god, it was awful.

Between the models that came out the generation after the HTC Desire/Galaxy were the biggest jump to this day. Upgrading from the HTC Desire to the Galaxy S2 was like going from a Ford to a Merc. Still to this day my mum uses my old GS2 and it is still an absolutely brilliant phone. Still quick, has a good screen, good camera etc.

None of the generations after the GS2 have been able to match the step up seen from the Desire->GS2 generations.

Well the note 2 is old and I believe has a 720p screen, the note 3 went 1080p last year and the note 4 is about to be unveiled (Samsung have sent out invites) which I think it would be fair to assume would have a quad hd etc.

Pro for the samsung is the pen, thats really the only difference other than the software tweaks, only you can say hwther you'd use the S Pen or not.

For me the compromise in terms of device size for the pen I'd probably kill the functionality of by flashing a new ROM always means the notes are no good for me.
