Evening GD,

My sister is due her first child, a little boy. I want to buy him a nice present? I have no ideas besides a teddy. Anybody got any ideas? What have you bought your first niece/nephew?

Thanks

As a break from the GC norm, i'm going to suggest something sensible. I know!

Those 'My 1st Year' books always go down well. You know the ones i mean?

Me at newborn, me at a month, the first outfit i wore was...yadda yadda yadda.

I was thinking about the book but im in Afghanistan at the minute and aren't going to be there till after Christmas. Somebody just suggested a personalised baby quilt, with his name on etc. I quite like that.

Bonds was something else that a friend mentioned, he puts £20 away a month for his.

Some mini trainers

A mobile (not a phone, something you hang over the bed)

A portable breast feeder

A sort of book diary thing, more for the parents really so they can put together a book of baby memories, pictures, bits and bobs, keep it for them and keep adding to it as they grow up, then show them when they are old enough.

I bought my niece a hamper of newborn toys, the obligatory Baby Book, and a handprint maker kit and frame. I also bought a hamper for my niece's mum with bath salts, face masks etc in it.

A Moses basket is sometimes a good gift, as well as vouchers for stores like Mamas and Papas or a voucher for something like a baby or family photoshoot.

I suggest one of these:

A nice wee reminder in the years ahead of how it all began:)

Short term to, clothes etc.
Something nice.
Engraved photo frame, or engraved pewter beer mug

Something along those lines.

I just got my nephew a red knitted dinosaur toy.

Some kind of keep-me memento, a hand / foot casting kit or book to stick photos in.

If you're well-off, something for the nursery too (e.g. blankets, mobile, play mat thing)

Got mine one of those playmat things. Discuss it with your sister, as much as it's a present for the little one it can also help your sister out by purchasing something that she would get anyway and thus helping them at the same time.

Babies be expensive yo!
