I need a new processor as I feel its holding my build back.

I currently have a Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz would this be holding my spec back?

OCZ 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666 RAM
3 x GTX 280's in SLI
Asus Striker 2 Extreme Mobo
Cosair 1000w power supply
2 x 74GB Raptors in Raid 0
All Watercooled

Will a quad make a big difference in gaming over the duo ?

BTW im running the duo at 3.6Ghz, also would you see the processor as the bottle neck ?

At the moment not many games take advanatge of quad core let alone dual core, It's a tough call.
If you do go quad then your already there and can take advantage of games which are quad core ready.

I'd go for an e8600...or a Q9550. Either one of those as they are both E0 steppings and will OC very nicely.

If it's for beching, or you do a lot of encoding work, or, if you're a big strat gamer, then get a quad, if you are purely a non-strat gamer, get the best possible dual core and clock the nuts off it.

managed to get 3.9GHz out of it in the end and managed to play crysis for 3 hours without any problem.

So the question is does l2 cache and quad cores make any difference in current games, no interested in benchmarks just playing games

TBH if you have a 3.9Ghz dual I wouldn't bother changing yet, if you went with an E8500 you might get 4.2-4.3Ghz but the actual difference in gaming speed running the res of a 30" screen is going to be pretty much nothing...
