what psu for 8800 GTS ?

I agree with Loadsamoney on the PSU front... it's the one component I have never skimped on after seeing a PC go "boom".

I have always had a very good PSU and have been happy in the knowledge that it will never hold my system back and any problems are likely to be other factors...

I say, stump up the extra £30 and always get a PSU that costs closer to a ton.

I promise you will always feel happy with your choice!! ;)
I've always done the same - bought quality PSU's. Then my 550W Enermax blew up and nuked my mobo and CPU. You can only do so much! Mind you I'm back (and happy) with an Enermax 600W after a year with a "ticking Tagan"...!

Not saying its ideal, but I've run an ASUS M2N-E, an AM2 X2-3800 @ 2500mhz, 2GB [email protected] HD....a DVD drive and an ASUS EN8800GTS all from a single 400w PSU with 14amp on 12v rail.

Never had a single problem :)

500 watt is the bare minimum

Rubbish :)

e6600
2gb ddr2
dvd-rw
8800GTX
HD
4 USB
4 120mm fans

Comes to 389w

System I ran on my 430w Seasonic:

805 @ 3800mhz 1.55v
7800GT
DVD-rw
2x IDE HD and 1x S-ata HD
4 USB
4 120MM fans

Comes to 390w

It is pushing it but you could use a good 420-450w with a GTX so 500w certainly isn't the bare minimum for an 8800GTS.

Nice choice with the Corsair though Quango-Uk, brilliant PSUs :D (8800GTX SLi has been ran on the 620w model ;))

Only problem with that is when the psu goes pop is a lottery of what it will take with it. You might be lucky and its only the psu that dies, but if it takes out your whole rig then your talking big bucks to replace everything.
Why do people risk a £600+ rigs with cheap under powered psu that will go pop at some point and possibly take out their whole pc

Thank you for confirming that. Dude if you have a nice GTS (nice one mate) then just fork out on a nice dear psu, one that will last you a hellava long time. Dont get the bare minimum. I would recommend very heavily the ThermalTake Purepower 680w. Brought it from OC. Absolute beast. Has all cables you will ever need and extremely reliable. Has survived numerous blackouts, powercuts etc.

And did I mention it is covered in a beautiful metal which is so reflective that it can be used easily with a mirror. Lol for like 3months i kept the bubble wrap on just so there would be no marks on it.

 that sounds wierd

I agree, hence the "NOT IDEAL" part.

I merely stated it was possible.
