What PSU for a 290x?

Nothing to add to what Pastymuncher said.

Other than an easy way to work out what power the PSU actually is is to multiply the amps on the 12v rails by 12.

So if we take my XFX 750 with its single 62 Amp Rail: 62 * 12 = 744 Watts. Easy. :)

So as I said earlier I'm using the 550W PSU with my current 280x that uses a 4pin PCI-e molex. Will this be reducing performance of the card any?

Its' not going to reduce performance, what it 'Could' do is affect it's stability, you 'could' end up with voltage rippling as the Molex Rail is not designed to carry a high end GPU, it's designed for low power components like Drives.

I am not one to care about power usage with graphics cards and I ran a 650 watt psu until it broke, But I would not be buying a 290x without also buying a decent make psu.

Around 70 to 80 pounds for a decent brand one with atleast 650watt for a single card pc.

Good advice above and I too use the database to find out the OEM provider is in case its a poor brand.

I have a 290X and this is on a Seasonic 750w which replaced a Corsair 750w. IMO Corsair went downhill over the last couple of years so would not recommend them at present until I was convinced.

Good advice above also :D. And I have a seasonic also albeit an m12 850watt that at the time for £80 was a great deal for a fully modular psu.

I had an ocz 650 watt before that which to be fair lasted nearly 6 years and saw an e8400 dual core and a gtx 260, then an i5 3570k and a gtx 670, and then a gtx 780 before it died.

Will this be a good PSU for the price then?

Antec TruePower Classic 750w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply

£72.50

Should I go for this one with a budget of £70?

Can I also get opinion on these PSU's? Unable to link as competitor.

Corsair CX750 Builder Series CX 750W ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze PSU - £65

Corsair Builder Series CXM 750W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU - £75

Would probably prefer a modular PSU for an extra quid or so.

Like I said above (post #45), I have used a Corsair and it ran fine for me but it was an older model from ~ 4 years ago. I have read a lot of issues with them in the last year or so.

If you can pickup a better brand for the same price then go with (seasonic, EVGA, BeQuiet) that. See what the others think of the brands as I cant say I used them all. Corsair are ok just not using the quality they did before.

Lots of suggestions but no idea which one to go for lol. Pretty adamant I want 750W. Think I won't go for a corsair though they have had lots of bad press about PSU's recently.

Looks like it's going to be Antec TruePower Classic 750w '80 Plus Gold'. Does this have 2 x 8 pin?

Can also get EVGA Supernova 850W for £82
