I have some spare parts that I will build a retro gaming computer out of. AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / nVidia GTX 1660 Super / MSI B550 Tomahawk Max / 2x 8GB RAM. I might have up to 4x 140mm Noctua fans and 3x 120mm Noctua fans or I could stick with the 2x 140mm and 1x 120mm the case I want will come with. I'll make a final decision on which fans to use when I see temps and hear the case in operation.

I selected all my components on a calculating site and it says the specs would draw about 329W. Is this accurate? What PSU would be good? I'm thinking a good brand's 550W should be more than OK or is 650W a safer bet? I also want something fully modular so I can minimise cables not being used and getting in the way.

Is this a good PSU to get? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seas...w-80-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-06w-ss.html or if 650W better, this one? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seas...plus-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-07f-ss.html

I'd guess around 200-250 when gaming, depending on the game and the settings used. For retro games it might only be around 100-150.

You don't need 7 fans for that system, the pre-installed 2x140 and 1x120mm should be fine.

It depends on the future of the system, if you might upgrade to e.g. a 4070 or 6800 in the future, then I'd get the bigger size.

The GX-550 is a decent PSU, with a long warranty, but £88 for 550 is a lot. If it was me, I'd spend a little extra for something that has more future utility, like bequiet's 12 M 750 (£110) which would run a modern midrange system and a card with a 12/16 pin (like 4070 Ti).

The second PSU is also decent, but as with the GX-550, I'd pay a bit more for something with more utility, like this:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £147.98 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Which would handle even a high-end system, with a 4080.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the advice. I Was confident 550W was enough but wanted to check just to make sure. I don't plan to upgrade either the CPU or GPU. It's only a recent idea I've had to build a retro gaming computer out of spare parts I wasn't using. I'm going to be playing TDU and perhaps Far Cry (1) and maybe FC2 and FC3 but anything newer I would use my main rig for. Just need to wait for OcUK to get the case I want in stock and I can order the PSU as well.
