Ive been looking at LFS, GTR2, Rfactor. Any others to suggest?

From reading the posts think im gonna go with Rfactor as it seems to more visually impressive, good online. I also like the fact of the mods(cars you can download for the game). Also the 100's of tracks you can download! Such as the ones im dieing for like brands hatch and Spa Francorchamps!!!!

Its been years since ive been into driving sims on the PC (GP2 by geoff cramond sp) was the last memory i have :) im ready to get back into it as i have a niggly feeling i might get a G25 aswell if i get into a certain game :)

So what do you recommend guys

depends on what kind of cars/racing your into really.

rfactor has a lot of different mods and tracks, but for me, the handling is a little too arcadey on 'some' mods - others are fine though (plus, theres the Nordschleife circuit)

race07 is quite good, but not many cars/tracks and havnt seen a great deal of mods knocking about (i got it just for WTCC, formula BMW and F3000 that are in the game - physics seem bang on though)

for f1, id still say F1 challenge for now (although rfactor will pass it in time), a few years old but theres tons of mods for it. you get 99-02 already and i think i have 1981-2007 (missing only full 1989 and 1992) installed at the moment.

I would like F1 cars but they arent a priority, more track cars - touring cars i would rather race for example.

So does Rfactor have the best reputation out of the other car sims?

I want it to be an enjoyable drive and actually get the car around the track but i also want a little bit of challange and realistic drive.

Before I discovered MMG2007 mod for rFactor I would've agreed that F1 Challenge is the best F1 game... but MMG is simply an amazing mod - the cars are modeled to near perfection/accuracy(in no other mod have I seen cars that are so accurate to real life); at first the handling is quite odd, and the do cars spin slightly unrealistically easily without TC, but once you get used to it you'll start to have a lot of fun(even with a keyboard!).

Just switched over to Rf+MMG2007 after 5 years of f1c and its various updates whilst mmg isnt perfect its got an update coming soon which will iron out a few bugs in V1.0 SE edition at the moment highly recommended imo.
As for touring cars as stated already rfactorcentral is a haven for them type of mods just search for the hall of fame tracks and mods you wont go far wrong at all.
I just recently tried this WTCC mod out http://www.zerkelmotorwerks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10545 very good if abit on the big size :)

if you want loads of different race types/tracks, rFactor is probably what you are after for now with its endless library of mods

LFS has the BMWSauber and a Formula BMW car in atm, limited on cars and tracks though, but pretty much king of the hill in physics

keep meaning to get back into these but feel im going to hold off till i get my gruby paws on a g25, theres a limit to the enjoyment you get when using a 360 pad (best PC pad tbh, and perfectly usable in sims, but its no substitute for a wheel and pedals)

when i really got into LFS the 360 pad would often see me competing happily in the mid field with reasonably experienced players, not the best LFS has to offer, but certainly not the worst

Right guys ive just given LFS a go. Its not a bad little racer been spending the last hour or 2 on it and is very challenging even with accel/brake assist on and you deffo need a wheel / peddles to play this game. But the lack of tracks and more than anything the graphics car models are pretty poor IMO.

Ill give RFactor a go next.....

The rFactor demo is very old and not representative of the final game, and especially not representative of how good the game can be with the right mod. It's definitely the one to buy though IMO. Of course it has it's share of bad mods but there's plenty of superb ones too, and enough tracks to keep you going forever.

The league I'm in has just done a great season with the F1 1979 mod, and we're probably going to be using F1 1979, Porsche Carerra Cup and MMG F1 (with FSR2008 physics) next season, plus maybe the BMW 320s. Other good mods I can think of off the top of my head - Caterhams, Formula Nippon, VW Beetles, 60s GT series, Le Mans 70, Formula BMW, Champ Cars plus there's loads of other I haven't tried.

Give Richard Burns Rally a go, you might like it or run away bruised. Dirt cheap now as well, saw a copy for £2.99 at a highstreet game retailer.

I an in a porsche supercup league for GTR2, superb mod and really fast once you get the feel of the cars.

A vote for LFS, best out of them all imo.
Negative that you need a wheel, I recently got one and I still drive better with my mouse than with the wheel. Can steer/respond much faster with a mouse.

I have to say LFS is very good too, the only problem being the shortage of tracks. GT Legends is excellent also, and has very nice graphics. I would say GT Legends (or even GTR2) if you're looking for single player, LFS is you're looking for online pick-up racing, and rFactor for league racing and mods. rFactor is the most flexible though.

edit: Richard Burns Rally is another classic if you're into rallying, top notch physics. Buy them all :D

Just been going through my games collection.

Ive found some oldies

- GRAND PRIX 4
- TOCA RACE DRIVER 2

Also ive found richard burns rally!! lol my brother must have bought it cause i havent lol.

Anyway been playing this game for the last hour and omg why didnt i start playing this game years ago! its awsome, difficult game but so realistic using my logitech wingman formula force. The force feedback is awsome on it!!!

Think im gonna be playing this game for a while!! and to think its a £2.99 game!!!

Great isn't it :) It's very hard though, or should I say very realistic. You really have to be patient and concentrate the whole time, and not push too hard either, and listen to the pace notes.

Of course it's only £2.99 because of it's age. It's a real shame it didn't become a lengthy series.

One of the lead programmers, Eero Piitulainen started his own project. That got binned and he was snapped up by Blimey! games.
