What racing sim do you recommend

For me, LFS. I just don't like the feel of rFactor.
Malc will be along in a bit saying the exact opposite :)

RBR for a rally sim though, there simply is no competition.

^^ You rang me Lord :D

I should just notepad & copy & paste my response to these threads/posts as even i am getting tired of my opinion.
Short & sweet then.

The 2 best online racers are RFactor & LFS & it's down to personal opinion. I'd urge all Sim racers to try the BMW E21's & PCC mods on RF before stating what they currently think as those 2 mods have raised the bar once again.
The All time best PC driver is still Richard Burns rally though & it is a Sin that it's for sale at £2.99.
Nothing beats RBR for realism or feel or driver involvement. Some times the game is just to real & you find yourself worn out by it, Other times you get a gaming rush like no other when you complete a full rally & finish top 3. Spending the time to do a whole World rally champ on RBR is an Epic achievement surpassed by No other game, Period.

Doesn't the feel depend entirely on the mod? Or do you mean the cars it comes with, which I think most people would agree are rubbish. The PCCs feel very similar to the same cars in GTR2. The F12008s (MMG2007+FSR2008) are better than any F1 game I've played. The 79s are like faster versions of the cars in GPL with downforce. The BMW 320s feel like they're straight out of GT Legends. And they all feel completely different.

Also since you mention feel, try the reelfeel FFB plugin which gives you pure feedback from the steering column to your FF wheel.

Erm, yeah...I don't like the GTR/L games either due to the feel.

I did play rFactor for a while, raced with Malc in the Porsches a couple of times before I got my refund. I can't really be arsed with fiddling with that huge illegitimate child of a config file every time I want to use a different car.

I don't like the way you can't join a server if qually or the race has started, and having to find the correct mods to race online just takes too long.

I don't know...maybe I gave up too soon, or maybe the ease of use of LFS has spoiled me.

Don't forget M3 Challenge for a free blast around the (new) Nurburgring in a new M3. It's a proper sim from Blimey, I think.

I've never had to even look at a single config file in months of racing with many mods in rfactor.

Bean0 is right Rfactor takes some tweaking searching & setting up where as LFS is just all there, It's also been that way for ages so there are plenty of people about with decent set ups to sling across. Nothing **** me off more than going on RF to play one of my fave mods only to be greeted with reams & reams of crappy Megan servers. The Megs are good but i am sick of them now & the E21's & PCC's are much better. Finding the exact same mod with the track you want to play with other people on the server who are Sim racers not Arcade stock car racers is hard at the best of times.
If it was up to me I'd have a server with the Caterhams the E21's & the PCC's doing tracks that are based on real tracks.
As for LFS i race far to much for LFS & get bored within an hour of playing, There is a far more casual attitude to races & there just isn't the Praccy/Qually/Race time build up in the game. Also with the ease of joining you get untold numptys not giving a flying **** & spoiling Decent races by ignoring blues when leaving the pits or on track or just generally trying to race a dude on hot tyres when theres are cold leading to the inevitable off.
I think the only answer now is to get RFactor, Find the mods that suit your driving/playing style & then get in with a Private league on a closed server. this way you are guaranteed to be kept up on near versions of mods & tracks that are run on the server & you get a better race because the Tards get kicked/banned quick sharpish.
Either that or just get LFS & get in with a team/closed races that way. Public is good for praccy but the serious Sim racing goes on behind closed servers.

If you're a fan of touring cars and the WTCC then you'll love RACE07. I just picked it up for £14.99 from Game and have been having a hoot online, you get the odd moron who uses your arse as a brake but the for main online racing is frantic and fun... I break in to a sweat! :D

Physics wise it's pretty good, they've got the front wheel drives down well (not easy to reproduce in a game). Still, as with most Simbin games, the sounds outside of the car (for replays and spectating) is a bit shallow and high pitched but that aside it's a good mix with the support classes thrown in.

Radicals, Caterhams, Formula cars and Mini's.

As with most racing games the damage model could be improved, I'd rather it more realistic which would force players to take more car of their cars!

I actually race a touring car in real life so I'm pretty keen on things looking and feeling right, for the most part Race07 as a game/sim works well. :) .. although I'm still quicker in the real thing than I am in the game!

Grand Prix 4 has a load of mods available for it now, anything from cars from the 60s and 70s, up to the late 80s cars, all the way up to last season and possibly this season too.

They have also just brought out a DTM mod for it as well. My mate has played most of them, however i havent got round to installing them yet.

Love the old GP series :D

Richard Burns rally and rFactor are the best racing sims I've played in the last few years. Can't go wrong with those. Altho as others have mentioned, rFactor is rather bare-bones as it comes, need to stock up on some nice mods for it to shine :)
