Hi All,
Currently building a gaming machine for a friend and would like some advice on what monitor to go for. Budget is around £150

Should i be looking at 16:9 or 16:10??
Whats the maximum native res i should look for?

Build specs below may help as i assume i need to game at native res of the monitor and hardware is obviously going to be the limiting factor.

Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield)
MSI P55-GD80 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4890 PCS+ 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Thanks for any replys :)

currently gota 2233bw for 180 and i love it,for under 150 theres the t220 i think. HF

With your ATI 4890 A 24" 1920x1080 at least, l have a 4890 1GB with a Sam 24" SM2243BW 1920x1080>5ms a excellent monitor would recommend it -

Sam 24".

My son use's a LG 22" 1920X1080>2ms worth every penny, if your sticking roughly to £150 the LG 22">£159.99 can't go wrong.

LG 22".

We both game a lot m8 any one would do! ;)

I would go for as high res as possible. A 23" 2048x1152, or a 24" 1900x1200....I used to have 1680x1050 and it's poo in comparison with higher resolutions.

Great thanks for the suggestions! I may go for a 1920x1080 i was just unsure wether this was a suitable res for gaming with it being 16:9 widescreen and if my hardware will be happy to run latest games at this res.

I'd go with a start point of 1920*1080 or above.
As long as thats the minimum res then yer good for HD.
Then just go with what other features you want from teh monitor.

I recently moved from 1680*1050 > 1600*1200 (temp old CRT) > 1920*1080

I've not noticed any negatives of gaming at a 16:9 res.

I think a 24' 1920x1200 will be quite enough.

I'm currently using a 2560x1600 and I feel dizzy when playing fps. Also, drives my graphic card crazy.
