I play at 4k 120 Hz (27" Gsync compatible Freesync) and 3440x1440 90 Hz (34" GSync), depending upon the game. Borderlands 3 is usually 70 fps+ at 4k, but BL2 is 120 fps solid and Far Cry will do 180 fps at 4k. Command & Conquer 3 is locked at 30 fps... I could probably play it at 8k.
 
1080p at 75Hz

I’m now wishing I’d bought a 1440p monitor but at the time I had an RX580 4GB and didn’t want to give it too many pixels to push.
 
1080/144.

Two reasons really

1)Easier to get high fps at 1080, than 1440p.
2)Monitor size. Have little space, 24-25" is perfect size. Hardly anyone seems to make higher res at that size, I know there are a couple, but that's it. You want 1440p, then it's 27"+ for a decent choice.
 
On my 27" I aim for 1440p at 90fps+. If that isn't attainable I "cheat" and see if there's an option to downscale to 1080p within the games settings to claw back some FPS while keeping settings up towards the high end - on most games I prefer this over keeping at 1440p and lowing settings.

Slower paced strategy or RPG games I'll go as high as I can go and benefit from gsync when it dips.

I'm still on a 980ti though, so hopefully there will be a reasonable upgrade path for me with the new GPUs this year as I've held off long enough from an upgrade through the mining craze and beyond.
 
2560x1080 on 34" Ultrawide gsync and very happy with it. Whack the AA up on games and I'm more than happy with the picture quality.

I'm a frame rate junky and means more to me than resolution.
 
1080p just isn't enough for me for work etc, so I have 1440p.
I game competitively, so I need more than 60hz, so I got 144hz.
I don't want screen tearing, but don't want to pay the gsync tax, so I got gsync compatible.

That's how I ended up at 1440 high refresh.

I can't see me ever wanting 4k tbh.
 
1440p 144hz, not because I'm a fps queen or anything, although it is really nice in games where my 980ti can kick out the extra frames, but it's actually a lot nicer just on the desktop. Gsync makes it a nice fit where my card can do around 70ish fps and then I get a nice smooth game without worrying about tearing.
 
1080p/60.

Not found a 1440/100+ monitor that I like, as yet. VA/IPS/TN(yuck) is all about making compromise.

I thought we'd have much better panels by now, sadly not.
 
1080p60 (Ultrawide)

Just haven't really felt the need to upgrade yet. I've been using my ultrawide LG monitor for over 5 years now. I was planning on upgrading this year when the AMD 4000 series and new Nvidia / AMD GPU's come out later this yea and if I could find a monitor I liked, but due to coronavirus and job security being a bit dicey I'll likely wait until next year now; also as the upgrade cost is quite pricey (around £1000 for a monitor and £1500 to £2000 for a new PC build).
 
4K where I can, the problem being many older titles, though supporting the resolution, have fixed size menus and fonts which look tiny on the screen and can't be resized, as it's hard coded in the game.
 
1440/144. I shelled out a bit and I'm much more pleased with the picture quality of the new monitor than the upgrade from 1080 to 1440. My old monitor is a pretty bog-standard 1080/144 which is now my 2nd monitor and having them side by side is like night and day.
 
1440/144 also but I didn't get a very good monitor. I went for too big and it's quite average but until I upgrade later this year I can live with it.
I'll probably play on a TV in the end, I find monitors in general really poor compared to TV's in general. Even on premium ones that the only premium seems to the the price.
1800 for an Acer predator with a panel lottery or an oled tv, not even a slightly difficult choice.
