What retro things have you done today?

Well, PS2 update...

I swapped the laser for the Chinese one from eBay, the antistatic solder blob was already mostly missing, it didn't work.
I then tried to remove the remainder of the solder on the pads just in case, and accidentally hit the surface mount resistor next to it and de-soldered it, and then gave up...

I took my spare PS2 apart and took the laser from it and put that one in, it was a different model of laser so I ran the laser reprogrammer, that didn't work either because... Somehow I broke the drive motor, or the motor happened to break... So now the disk doesn't spin either. :o

I put the spare PS2 back together and luckily it does still work but it reads disks quite slowly. Sadly the spare one is a different model, 390003 not 500003, so I couldn't take the whole disk drive from it.

I bought another PS2 of the same revision on eBay, with a broken controller port but a working drive, I'll try taking the whole drive from that one and putting it in mine...

I just really want my original working again!

Person who sold me the first spare PS2 has responded to my request for a partial refund asking if I want another PS2 that has no display output instead.
So of course I said "err... I suppose" :p

So I'm going to end up with 4... If I can't make my one work with three consoles of spares god help me.

that's a fair collection in the background, have you got a full Dreamcast set? Any more pics? :)

Dug my old OG Xecuter 2 modded xbox out of the garage, plugged it in and realised quickly that the old composite video -> scart lead wasn't going to cut it. Ordered a new XBOX -> HDMI adapter on Amazon, and it runs fine!

Immediately got the itch, after much investigation and questioning on Reddit (the guy on there found my modchip on the wayback machine!!!) , flashed the 22 year old BIOS with an updated one, have FTP'd the entire contents of the hard disk onto my NAS for backup, and have ordered a new 2TB HDD, IDE cable and SATA -> IDE adapter to upgrade the HDD. I've also got to remove the clock capacitor, because I don't think mine has leaked yet (v1.4/5 version!) and it's apparently a matter of time before it does. Few pictures of it running FIFA 2004 and Fight Night 2004  (Both PAL games that run in 480i, hence the shonky res)

I love the old Xbox days. I remember getting Xbox live and playing Sega GT online. Was such an awesome time. Later on I used to mod Xboxes for people with the Aladdin chip and a HD upgrade. Good times!

Me and bro are aiming for a full collection. We've been collecting retro together since 2005, will get some pics of the collection not all of it is displayed though! We're Sega fan boys haha

Yeh that would be great! I built a gaming man cave in my house to contain my collection. I have been collecting since the early 90's... Old man now! :D
