What retro things have you done today?

Seeing as we're posting CRT's this is my Mitsubishi Diamondtron 19". The Anti-Glare was smeared and scratched so I removed it. Made the screen a bit brighter but just adjusted down the brightness to compensate.

Here’s my Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 93SB

The photos from the eBay ad back in 2022! I bought it knowing it has horizontal collapse with the hope of one day fixing it… I paid 99p!

Now that is a grail monitor, better even than the Trinny!

I hope you get it sorted!

I know people collect the old hardware, so for info, I have just put two old laptops up in the members market. If they go, I've also got a p3 and p4 base unit to add as well, I do need the room :)

I saw someone talking about a Compaq MX11800 keyboard, which is a Cherry G80-11900 with a trackball, going on about how finding it was "a score" and it feels amazing to type on etc, and I thought hold on... I have one of those in the loft!

So I dug it out! And sure enough, its fully mechanical with Cherry MX Brown switches! I thought it was just a cheapo membrane thing when I picked it up, I didn't pay much attention!

I'm looking forward to having a couple of full systems set up when I move soon and have some space, will be nice to get all the good bits and pieces all together.

I enjoy posing things and taking photos... Should probably actually use some stuff too eh. :D

This week, I've been playing with my P3 700mhz Voodoo3 system. I was struggling to get the SB Live value software working for tinkering with the sound card. There are a billion drivers to try and each install was leaving a trail.

I thought I'd try a fresh install of XP with with what I thought was the correct software package. And.. it was the same result.

So then I thought, maybe RAM, maybe hard drive, maybe the card itself. I hunted in my garage and found a couple of PC133 sticks, and had the same result. I will see if another hard drive works, maybe an SSD and report back.

This system has a ISA slot too which is a result.

Think I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that I am not really enjoying retro as much. Going to start an even bigger clear out and get some money back for things that I actually use. Of course going to keep some of my best items, not making the mistake of getting rid of it all, again!

I had that moment a while ago, I think mostly because I've messed around with most things that interest me now. Not helped by losing access to space for a second desk to have a retro pc set up out of the way. Also not helped by Steam stopping XP and then 7 support. I've been messing with early Windows 10 hardware (Ivy Bridge with 400 series or later) but it isn't the same being on the same OS as your main PC.

The ARM based retro handheld area seems to be the only area where big strides are being made and I am interested in that.

However I think I am slowly building a RAID0, sli and or dedicated physx card, Windows Vista / 7 build lol

That's good, I have made that mistake and rue the day I got rid of stuff when I moved. I collect slot cars, and sold so many and to buy them back now, its either, near impossible or very expensive.

It's like any hobby, just make sure you stash away stuff for another day - whether a years time or five. The bug might bite again.

My dedicated Win XP machine isn't fully retro, but I love it. I've been playing hyped games of the day but I never played! Alice, Deus Ex, Thief and GTA III. At the time of launch, these games never appealed as I was addicted to driving sims and Half Life Team Fortress. Now playing them 20+ years on, I can see the hype so its good to have finally experienced them.

I've sold quite a lot of stuff over the past year. I've kept some machines still though. Build 1 or 2 thats going to cover the games you're gonna always want to play and you should be sorted.

After selling all my SNES stuff (can be seen years back on the forums), I’ve had a hankering for the Saturn which I absolutely loved in my early / mid teens.

Emulation is fine but you don’t get the same nostalgia, so this arrived today, got my eye on a few more of the classics I used to have, specifically Guardian Heroes.

I also got a USBC power mod which can be switched in with no soldering removing any need for a step down for the 110v Japanese unit.

I just need a CRT, it’s the one thing I regret getting rid of when I sold my SNES as looking around anything decent isn’t not cheap.

I recently played through all of the Resident Evil 2 scenarios. Finishing off with Claire B, thought I'd post it here.

What a game.

I got a new retro desktop case to go along with the HP Monitor and Altec Lansing speakers I’ve recently acquired…

That is a really nice sleek simple looking monitor and PC combo, I like it a lot actually!

The case is a Kate & McKenzie (K&M) they do a lot of different retro looking cases. I paid £45.60 shipped next day.

The Monitor cost me 73p and the speakers were £8 :)

I'm going to put my MiSTer FPGA inside it and order a Ducky Origin Vintage keyboard from here to go with it :)
