You jest but a quick test to differentiate a lot of sedimentary mud rocks is to nibble a bit and feel it on your teeth/tounge

The vinegar test is not going to be exciting even if it is a carbonate. At best you may get a few of small bubbles in the liquid.

That's a porous rock, it don't matter what it is you don't want it in your pond.

It wont be clean inside unless purchased from an aquarium shop.

The is probably a way to clean them but its too early for me to find out.
