Sandisk extreme III's all the way, don't skimp on cards!

Something that often gets shadowed by performance is the actual build quality. I previously owned some cheaper ones which performance wise were on a part with Ultra II's. However, they both have fallen apart after about a year. When I say fallen apart, I mean, cracks in the plastic casing which eventually mean bits breaking off. Also a third, made by someone else developed an annoying thing where the read/write switch would not stay in place so you would be shooting and then all of a sudden be presented with a cannot write to memory card error.

Subsequently upgraded to some Extreme III's; whilst the speed is a bit overkill for my D40, the plastic feels much much stronger. (I got a good deal as I would have gone for the UltraII's instead).

:)

Lexar professional 4gb here. I use these in my 450D as, for this specific camera, they perform as well as SanDisk Extreme III's but are quite a bit cheaper.

Note that the performance of a card may vary in different cameras - it's worth doing some research first to see what should work best in your particular make/model of camera.

Also, beware of cheap SanDisk cards - there are many fakes around. Buy from a reputable retailer, not from the rainforest marketplace or Ebay unless you're certain they're genuine. A 4Gb Extreme II should be costing £25-30, so beware of anyone trying to sell you one for £15 :P

Have the feeling that's the reason that I've heard a few stories of folks buying Transcend off a well known auction site and having problems - probably fakies!

Just to mention Kingston!
I have 4 of various types 2,4,8 and 32gb, fast enough, and good value!

no real world difference with my SanDisK Extremes, although I don't tend to fill the buffer too often!

Having just bought myself a 450d I wanted to know the answer to this myself and after a brief Google it became obvious that Sandisk Extereme III's were the best cards in terms of performance and reliability.

I recently purchased this camera myself and use a SanDisk Extreme III 2GB card. In fact i've just bought myself another SanDisk Extreme III 4GB card today! :)
