I want to be able to record my guitar along with backing tracks (MP3). I also would like the capability to make my own musical creations. I already have a midi keyboard, so I now need a sequencer and I presume, an interface.

What do you guys think would be best for me? I suppose I can spend up to £300.

most software have trials available and i advise trying as many as you can because everyone really does have a different opinion on this. they all do the same thing but in slightly different ways and one of those ways will no doubt feel 'right' for you.

im a total ableton fanboy so the above is unbiast as i can get :D

think it depends on your approach and musical background, ableton is awesome, particularly as a live tool, things like cubase are good if you find it easiest to work with traditional linear editors but perhaps out of price range.

Looking around and came across this. I can get it for around £230. I prefer a linear editor. I hope this isn't a competitor. You can't buy from here anyway.

That actually looks exactly what you're after.

I prefer Cakewalk's sequencers such as Sonar but they are all basically the same.
However buying you r own sequencer and interface can have it's advantages.
For instance if you bought a Line 6 KB37 Toneport then all editable guitar, bass & vocal presets come with it plus it has a keyboard for driving the keyboard sounds that will come with the sequencer.

This is the latest thing I'm doing in Sonar - http://www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/pics3/sonar.jpg

Here's the music not finished yet - http://www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/pics3/lg2.mp3
